Let’s talk about Invader Zim…’s creator, Jhonen Vasquez. He has a very dark sense of humor and loves to joke with his অনুরাগী all the time, regularly posting মতামত on his Twitter page. One of his first projects that he ever worked on before becoming জনপ্রিয় with the Nickelodeon প্রদর্শনী was the violent, dark comedy, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, created out of Vasquez’s revenge fantasies… Sure, let this guy work on a kid’s cartoon. What’s the worst that could happen? But, let's not talk about something that's জনপ্রিয় and everyone loves and probably wants me to talk about. Let's talk about Johnny the Homicidal Maniac instead
I’m not gonna say that Invader Zim was the most kid friendly প্রদর্শনী around, but when আপনি look at what Vasquez did before he made Invader Zim….
Yeah… I wouldn’t trust him around my children, honestly. But, anyway, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac was a great comic book series. The story follows a homicidal maniac, named Johnny. He lives in a world that is filled with jerks and idiots, and the best thing for him to do whenever he feels slightly annoyed is to murder them in very graphic ways. I mean VERY graphic ways. Like, Mortal Kombat levels of graphic. All while shouting out the bad these people do to society, as well as Johnny. The প্রদর্শনী is a lot like Invader Zim when it comes to characters. আপনি can tell, just দ্বারা looking at Johnny, that he isn’t the most sane person, yet everyone who sees hm bullies অথবা annoys him, usually due to either ignorance অথবা just being a prick. Also, the police have never been able to catch Johnny, and not a single person suspects him, and Johnny just goes on with his life, killing people. Now, yes, Johnny being a murderer is one of the major things in the show, but there is still a few darker subplots in it.
Which should we start with. How about the monster behind the wall? While Johnny does kill people outside of his house, he will sometimes bring people প্রথমপাতা with him and torture them, maybe for days, before killing them, and then using their blood to paint the wall. At first, it’s just because the blood dries and changes color, but eventually, it turns out the blood keeps the monster from breaking out. Some other plots include the three entities that speak to Johnny, Psycho Doughboy, Mr. Eff, and Nail Bunny. These three characters are the only things that speak to Johnny, yet even Psycho Doughboy and Mr. Eff don’t care about him. Psycho Doughboy demands that Johnny kills himself, who almost got that, if Johnny wasn’t distracted দ্বারা a commercial about diarrhea. Meanwhile Mr. Eff want’s him to keep killing for a long time and suffer. Nail Bunny is the only one who seems to actually care about him, but maybe only slightly. He mentions that Johnny once used to প্রণয় doing work, but let his hatred of others become so much, that he can’t find joy in anything he used too…. Isn’t that deep.
Other characters and subplots in the world of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac is the young boy, Todd, nicknamed Squee for the sound he makes. Squee is the nextdoor neighbor of Johnny, and lives with his neglectful mother and a father who blames Squee for ruining his life. Johnny always seems to be fond of Squee, even if he always kills something in front of him and almost traumatizes him. Squee was apparently জনপ্রিয় enough to get his own book series, titled Squee’s Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors, which I may have to review some time in the future. Another character in the series is Devi, a woman who works at a bookstore, who once dated Johnny, before he tried to kill her due to his psychotic needs, and now hides inside her house, fearing that things could get worse because of Johnny. She too has her own book series, known as I Feel Sick. Maybe I’ll review both of those বই some time in the future. But, who knows.
Besides the story of Johnny, there are some other minor stories that are told as breaks from the main story. Some of them are Happy Noodle Boy, a comic that Johnny works on, which Vasquez created as, he stated, “an abomination”. Happy Noodle Boy consists of a stick figure yelling and cursing nothing but nonsense, usually leading him to be shot. Another series is Public Service Announcement, parodying real public service announcements, such as teen pregnancy অথবা drug abuse. There’s also Anne Gwish, which takes place in the same universe as Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, following a young goth girl and meant to satirize the goth culture, which I just find funny. People call me goth all the time, yet I think I’m much আরো happy to be one, but that’s probably the insanity, creeping in ever so slowly into my psyche… Anyway, the পরবর্তি short is known as Wobbly-Headed Bob, a small creature of some sort that sees himself as a genius, but also sees all the bad things in the world, and whenever he sees someone filled with joy, he tells them how ignorant and stupid they are, followed দ্বারা a speech of how terrible the world is, followed দ্বারা ব্যক্ত person either running away in fear, অথবা killing themselves… It’s a messed up series (Then again, why am I calling THIS messed up in the Johnny the Homicidal Maniac comics?). Then there’s True Tales of Human Drama… I don’t remember these one’s much. And lastly, and these are my personal favorites, is titled Meanwhile…, where it just has যেভাবে খুশী things happening and it gets pretty silly অথবা creepy. There’s a girl being killed দ্বারা an army of Pinatas after she kills one at a birthday party, and two ancient gods possess the bodies of children to reenact a deadly ancient battle and also a moment where this one nervous man goes on a তারিখ with Devi and tries to hold his explosive diarrhea.... What is it with Vasquez and diarrhea? Also, speaking of Vasquez, there’s actually a moment in Meanwhile… where he is a character who fights the devil and aliens, yet is really bored. I gotta admit, seeing Vasquez in his own work is kinda charming.
Something I always hear is that Johnny is a lot like Jeff the Killer... and everytime I hear that, I just groan. Comparing Johnny to Jeff is just crazy... Hell, comparing anything to Jeff is a bad thing. Jeff the Killer was a dreadful story about some overpowered teenager that murdered people for no reason. The reason here is to প্রদর্শনী how screwed up and tired Johnny is with society and how his hatred for anything stupid অথবা annoying completely makes him despise everything and not see the good in a single thing, which I think is a powerful message. Jeff's message is only to not play with matches অথবা lighters... Yeah, that's about right.
What else can I say about this series. It’s violent, it’s crazy, it’s got dark comedy, it’s just so… Vasquez. Not anymore I can say about it. It’s just so Vasquez. It manages to be quite a disturbing comic, while also being satirical and funny at the same time. This comic makes আপনি think, “With society like this, is a serial killer really the worst thing about it”... Okay, maybe yes, a serial killer is worse, but don’t প্রশ্ন it. It’s a Vazquez work. If আপনি প্রশ্ন it, you’ll just go crazy eventually. Also, yes, this series came out before Invader Zim… I don’t know why Nickelodeon wanted him to work on a children’s show, but I’m sure he knew what he was doing. Nothing too traumatic came from that show, right? Anyway, the series is good if you’re looking for something much darker than the usual Tim burton film. To put it bluntly, it’s the good version of Jeff the Killer. Take care.
