PLEASEPLEASE, 3M, 12DP, N and DC, with drummer and bassist!
"In 2012, Mattel will introduce new films that revolve around Barbie's sisters -- Skipper, Chelsea and Stacie -- after a product line for the sibs was launched this past spring".
ULULU! Please, "A Perfect Halloween"!!1
Yes 3M,12DP,N and me want Maripossa 2
"Perfect Halloween" will be cool
Sorry if that sounded like a rant, but I just needed to let it out somewhere.
I fully agree with you. That's the reason why I refuse to grow happy about this. And it seems like that Mattel is going to churn out one movie after the other..no me gusta.
"Over the years, Mattel found the key to making the films successful was putting Barbie not just in her Malibu digs but in fantasy and storybook settings where she can play a mermaid, a princess or fairy -- essentially the same elements that worked for Disney's princess and fairies line, now a $4 billion a year industry."
Apparently they decided not to mention that Mattel have abandoned that successful aspect.
As for sequels... well, I still have some insane desire for the perfect Nutcracker sequel, but I don't know how likely it is. I DO like the idea of a series about the sisters, though; they interacted so well together in PC and it really made that movie for me. "A perfect Halloween" would be great. XD
Releasing the movies on Blu-Ray is certainly an interesting step. I have a Blu-Ray player, myself (although I don't use it so much because I can't take screencaps on it), and I suppose it would really depend on how they were released. If Nutcracker was released on Blu-Ray with new special features, I'd certainly consider it. (Also, on a completely random note, surely Fairytopia was around BEFORE 2007? I remember when that series started out, and it was much earlier than that, I think - around 2004?)
Oh, and I must give a mention to this part at the end:
""Girls watch our movies over and over again and get to know these characters well," which lets Mattel create more products to market to them, McKnight said."
They do, indeed, which kind of makes me wonder why you only bother to make products for about half of them. I mentioned something similar on Livejournal quite a while back, but I think Mattel should consider the selling prospect when it comes to characters. The PCS line (while it was a lot better than most of the newer movie lines) failed miserably in that department. Sure, it's great of your little girl is a fan of Blair or Delancey, but what if she's a fan of Isla, or Miss Privet? Good luck finding dolls for those kids. Yes, girls DO watch the movies over and over again, and they DO get to know their favourite characters well (heck, this spot's a living example of this!), but that's not going to mean much in marketing terms if you stick to the same formula, and that's what the movie lines have been doing lately.
The article does have some positive aspects, but it also seems to be glossing over some of the problems the movies have been having as of late. They talk about this fanbase that is always waiting for the next movie (hi, everyone!) but they don't talk about how some members of said fanbase have drifted away because they're disappointed with the quality in the franchise lately. These aren't just people on here; I'm talking about people on Amazon and Flickr as well, and those are just the ones I know about. And mentioning how successful the princess/fantasy concept was - not just to Disney, but to the movies themselves - only makes me even confused about why they've abandoned it. I'm sure they were trying to aim for a positive theme with this article, but it just makes me wonder how many people working there need some kind of wake-up call.
But thanks for sharing it!
KMS is not here. Oh my! Now, they won't be good *suicide*.
But, I don't think they would make N or another old good movies' sequels, 'cause you know, they like only pink and sparklish thingies. Though PaP...
I really have no thoughts about it now. Let it be.
(@Miss Major)
Original F was in 2005, FM was in 2006, and MotR was in 2007, so they're kinda right.
This article... I don't know, I can't take it seriously when the writer doesn't seem to have done the research.
And I think "A Perfect Halloween" will be great. It will be funny if the sisters always scare Chelsea all the time! xD What about "A Perfect Summer"? (That will be very weird as heck!)
Also, Miss Major is correct. But I always think of myself, "Why can Mattel go back to the older movies?". Mattel have successful movies back then than now, so why stick to those movies?
That weird McKnight is killing it all. She loves "sparkles" and "pinkness" and "modernized" stuffs. I will get that down! DOWN, DOWN, DOWN! (Am I acting like Candace?)
But OK, I'll give them a chance, like Loli said. But in the following films, no offense, they will have poor sales on the movies.
Which part was I correct about? The part about their success with princesses and fairies? When I read that part, I was basically wondering the same thing.
I don't know what to make of McKnight. On one hand, she sometimes shows a bit of sense (the "kids watch these movies over and over again" part, for instance) but it doesn't seem to be getting through to the products themselves, and what good is it then? What good is knowing about your fanbase if you just ignore it? What is going on in those meetings, honestly?
What I wouldn't give to have a job there...
Yep, same here, I'll never buy the old movies with the same features. But if they will release it in BR together with more and much more features, me will buy it. I want to see the documentary on how did they perfected the animation and how they practice the dance and stuffs. That's what I really wanna know about N. Not those documentaries that is put in the discs over and over again.
Also, I'm still wondering about the other ones, after N? I will want BaR on BR, you know. But of course, I will not if they have the same features.
I think we need to wait, though. It's the only thing we can do nowadays.
The odds of that ever happening are exceedingly low, though.
