I've seen a lot of polls and countdowns about which Disney Princess is the best role model, but I haven't seen one for the guys yet, so I decided to do a countdown for them.

I love Beast as a character, but as a role model for young boys? No. He's pretty abusive for the majority of the film, and while he does change by the end, it's still not the best message to send that the only reason for a guy to stop being an asshole is because of a girl, imo.

1. He has a bad temper and mistreats everyone around him for most of his screentime.
2. He becomes suicidal after Belle leave him.

Well he is very flirty and sexual which is not something that should be put in boys minds. Beast is an obvious second.

This is presumably ignoring that they are all pretty much reformed at the end of their movies?

I'm gonna go with John Smith, noted Indian-killer and bigot. He's about to shoot Pocahontas too, but fortunately for her, she's too hot to kill. Great message to send to growing boys!

Well...either him, Adam, or Kristoff. Naveen, because he has no initiative ( while Tiana has initiative in spades), and has been content heretofore with living off of his parents. He has had everything done for him, so to speak. Entitled rich boy = bad example.

I hope Phillip wins this countdown. :)

@UnholyNoise: No, this is counting how they developed for the better by the end of their movies, although I think that for younger children the reformation arc in some of the films might not be as effective for imparting morals than it would be for a more mature audience, at least from what I've noticed.

This is a tough one. I'm going to say Naveen because he leeches off of his parents so much and doesn't know how to live independently. He doesn't manage money well and has zero work ethic. On top of that, he has no desire to learn how to get by on his own.

All of the modern ones bar Eric and Shang, imo.

but at least the movie acknowledges that Naveen is wrong for acting the way he does. Flynn proudly steals and cheats and never once regrets his attitude but we're supposed to take it as him being such a cad.

I think the Beast is actually a decent role model for realizing he needs to change for the better (though maybe his original reason for it wasn't the best). shouldn't kids be taught you should learn from your mistakes and try to be the best person you can be?
