He seems to be a bit too much full of himself. Also it is kind of hard for him to accept other cultures and points of view.

This is the hardest decision to make for me with this countdown. *sigh* It was hard choosing between Eric and John. Shang has to win, hands down, and those who pick Shang because he is too serious are stupid.

Eric is an excellent role model. He teaches kids to be faithful and to never give up. He is also, kind, polite, and thoughtful. However...when it comes to his actions themselves, they don't carry as much weight and significance. Sure, he gets to know Ariel. Yes, he is kind and loves her for who she is. But she doesn't really do anything pivotal. I love Eric, but in order to be the best role model possible, you need to do something grander. I don't know, he is missing something to me.

John, on the other hand, is better. About the gun thing...all of the colonists carried guns, so why does him possessing one make him a bad role model? The only weak point people can argue for is that he almost shot Poca....but how can you blame him with the orders he was given and the limited knowledge he had?

John is amazing as a role model. He is human and he makes mistakes. Yeah, he has blood on his hands from killing others. However, Poca reaches out to him and teaches all that she knows because she sees more in him; she sees potential and sees that he is actually a really good person. And she is right. He learns tolerance of other people and races despite their color, is willing to learn their culture, and even defend and save the tribe regardless of the orders given to him. He is also calm and patient, allowing Poca to make her decisions and not enforcing her to take a certain path. All in all, he is very supportive of her and who she is.

Shang would be my number one, personally.

But anyway, I say Eric because while he is brave and follows his heart, I just think that he throws too much to the wind when he goes off to save Ariel and keeps his mind set on one person for potentially the rest of his life, and while that might work in movies, it could drive someone off the edge in the real world. I dunno, him and John are both kinda tied for the same reasons I guess.

i do find all of these 3 good role models, but i guess i'm gonna lean towards Eric and Shang cause they didn't really show anything negative, but it's sort of a tie between them !

Tough choice, but Shang doesn't stand out to me as much as the others. I think he's a good leader, and it was good of him to spare Mulan's life, but he still had difficulty in trusting her because she's a girl.
John and Eric are both better role models because John was able to see past cultural differences and appreciate the Indians as other humans, and the thing about Eric that stands out to me is the fact that he went back on a burning ship to save his dog. Risking your life to save a dog is worth about 65464654646749 points to me!

Honestly I can't think of a completely valid reason, I just think the other 2 did more to be considered better role models.
