\'I am now officially Dr. Sheeran,\' Ed said. But, like, what?

Ed Sheeran’s worn a lot of interesting clothes throughout the years. He’s got his penchant for flannel, his penchant for chest tattoos, his beloved nerd-clown Halloween costume… The list goes on and on.

But Ed’s most recent outfit was decidedly more scholarly.

“I graduated today, I am now officially Dr. Sheeran,” the “Thinking Out Loud” singer wrote in the caption. So, like, what’s going on here?

As it turns out, the 24-year-old Ed — whose concert film, “Jumpers For Goalposts” hits select theaters Oct. 23 — received an honorary doctorate degree from University Campus Suffolk in the UK for his “outstanding contribution to music,” Yahoo reports.

The 2015 MTV EMA host, who grew up in Suffolk, left school at age 16 to pursue a career in music full time, eventually adding a Guinness World Record to his accomplishments. Part of the success, Ed said, was due to going out and seeing more of “life university.”

“For a musician you need more life university, rather than studying anything,” Ed said to the Press Association.

He also talked about the crippling debt that some students can end up with after school.

“I don’t necessarily think university is what you have to do to get a job,” Ed said. “I know that’s a weird thing to say coming to receive a doctorate, but I think there’s a lot of pressure on kids to go to university, then a lot of them end up in debt with a degree they didn’t really need to get the job they want.

“I think we should encourage kids to chill a bit more. You don’t have to go to university at 18,” he said. “You can go off and travel for a year.”
