I disagree with some of these, but on others she makes very good points.

My biggest problem is Ariel, because I don't think the writer has seen the movie. She says Ariel gives everything up for a man and only goes to live on land for the prince but as anyone who has seen the movie knows Ariel wants to live on land before she even sees the prince. It's her dream.

Ariel doesn't go to live on land for him, she does it becasue she always wanted to. The movie's most famous song is all about her wanting to live on land and she sings it before she knows the prince exists.

To me getting upset that she follows her lifelong dream just because it happens to coincide with her relationship sends the message 'You should make yourself unhappy just to prove how independant you are' and that's not feminism, in fact surely thats not a much healthier viewpoint than sexism

I agree she was wrong about the Ariel one, she became human because she always wanted to, not for a guy. It's weird because, as much as I liked that movie, there are some valid points she could've made. Giving up your voice to get the guy seems like a more logical thing to focus on, and that actually happens.
I'm fine with her being on the list, it's just odd the writer chose to pass over credible faults and choose one that doesn't actually exist.
Also, I'm surprised she made the list when characters like Cinderella didn't.
Though I'm biased as Ariel was my childhood favourite :)

Yes, I find Cinderella more fitting for a list like this. After passivley accepting being treated like a slave for years she sees her fairy gdmother and the best thing she can think of to ask for is a night at a ball to meet a prince?
Ariel had some negative parts of her story, but at least she had some good qualities too. She wasn't completely passive and she fought for what she wanted.

I think what everyone is missing here, is that most of these storys were written before there were such things as phones let alone television. These are adaptations of classic childrens storys. When they were written it was the norm. Walt Disney just elaborated the storys and animated them.

Plus what is wrong about teaching little girls that working hard and achieving your dreams is bad. so cinderella cleaned floors, she neaver complained and has a whole list of valuable skills, so what if ariel dreamed of being different and went to some extreems to get there.

They found love in the end yes, but again is that such a bad thing either? what disney cartoons teach is to be yourself, people will love you for it.

I like Disney, and it's not finding love or the cleaning I had an issue with in Cinderella, it's the fact that she's so passive about being treated like a slave by her family and rather than a better life for herself the best thing she can think of to wish for is a night out.

She didn't work hard to acheive her dreams, she sat around waiting for someone else to come along and change her life, and that's my problem with her.

Allowences have to be made for the fact that Disney movies are from another time, but I don't think it should stop someone from pointing out the issues in the stories, even if those issues are excusable.

I have no problem with characters finding love, the only problem I sometimes have is with the character's personalities not their overall stories.

Urk. I agree, mostly. I HATE CINDERELLA! When the prince came, she should discovered he's an ass, and hit him with her slipper, and made a better life somewhere else. And I agree pandawinx.I agree.

All of you are forgetting about Gaston, Yao, Ling, and Chin Po. Gaston and the villagers believe that Belle should be serving men and think she is weird just because she reads a book. Yao, Ling, and Chin Po, are agains the idea of a woman who always speaks her mind.
