‘Game Of Thrones\': Tyrion Is Bringing The Party To Meereen In Season 6

Missandei herself, Nathalie Emmanuel, tells us why it\'s all about Tyrion.

At the end of season five of “Game of Thrones,” fans of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) were probably pretty shocked to see their Mother of Dragons fly far, far away from her adopted home of Meereen, ending up not in Westeros, but back in the Dothraki sea that served as her setting back in season one. She was seemingly left in mortal danger once she landed, but Dany’s misfortune has actually led to a whole lot of fun for one of her most trusted advisors — or, at the very least, for the actress who portrays her, who now gets to be one-third of a “Three’s Company” ruling triumvirate with Peter Freaking Dinklage.

“The dynamic of those three characters will be so fun to watch,” Nathalie Emmanuel, who is busy filming “Thrones” and promoting her new movie “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials,” told MTV News. “You’ve got Tyrion who is just so comical, and then Missandei, who is very straight and collected, and very internal with her feelings, and then Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson), who is almost emotionless altogether, as far as we’re aware… So to put those two characters with a guy who just talks a lot, and is so funny, and is a bit of a drunk, a bit of a womanizer — it’s setting up for a really interesting dynamic.”

Whether or not Tyrion will be able to coax Missandei and Grey Worm out of their respective shells, Emmanuel was not able to fully say. But she

note that “if there’s anyone in the Seven Kingdoms who is capable of that it’s Tyrion Lannister.”

However, Emmanuel — who has already shot some scenes with Dinklage that she said nearly made her crack Missandei’s cool exterior — reveals that we shouldn’t necessarily expect Tyrion’s presence to lead to a hookup between Missandei and Grey Worm (if that could even happen), because with Tyrion around, everyone’s favorite will-they-or-won’t-they Essos duo will have to work extra hard to maintain Dany’s law of the land.

“We’ve established how these guys feel about each other, but we’ve also established that these guys are very much about their jobs,” she explained. “It’s really, really hard to say, because… is it time to get serious? Probably. But I don’t think that takes away from their bond. They’re not very vocal, they’re not a verbal couple, so whether we’ll see a whole lot of outpouring of emotions, I don’t know.”

And as for how Emmanuel feels about her main girl Dany abandoning her, like, five seconds after their intimate, hand-holding moment… well, let’s just say the actress is able to separate her own feelings from the feelings of her character.

“I’m thinking from Missandei’s point of view, I think I feel like Missandei being the very loyal, doting advisor that she is, the main sort of goal is to get Dany safe,” she explained. “When she rides her dragon for the first time, I’m sure those two have talked about how special of a moment that is, because you kind of have to imprint on a dragon before you can ride it… I don’t think Missandei would have been like, ‘Oh fine, thanks, thanks for using me.’ It was more about the weight of that moment. The truth of the matter is, if Missandei died tomorrow, it wouldn’t have an affect on the kingdom. Dany is potentially the answer to completely changing everything. I think Missandei is very, very aware of that, and wouldn’t have held that against Dany, for leaving her.”

“… But at the same time, if it was me, and my best friend flew off on a dragon and left me in a pit of assassins trying to kill me, I’d probably have something to say to him.”
