Game of Thrones to be turned into a blockbuster movie 

Creator George RR Martin, inset, said US network HBO will make a bigscreen adaptation when the fantasy drama ends its run on TV.

The Daily Star Sunday can also prove fans’ favourite Jon Snow will come back from the dead – after actor Kit Harington was pictured filming new scenes on set.

We exclusively told you in June how Kit, 28, would return for season six despite appearing to be stabbed to death in the last episode of series five.

Our insider said: “The two main questions on every fan’s lips is ‘Will there be a film?’ and ‘Is Jon Snow really dead?’. Those key questions have been answered.”

Game Of Thrones, which is mainly filmed in Belfast, won a record 12 Emmys at last Sunday’s ceremony. Speaking at the HBO afterparty, author Martin said he will not be involved in the film and that show writers David Benioff and DB Weiss will be in charge.

George, who is currently writing the final two Game Of Thrones books, said: “There will be a movie but I will not be involved.

“I have too much to do. That is something HBO and the DB and David are dealing with.

“I have two more books to fi nish and I still have so much to do.

“The pressure is on. I am such a slow writer and the fans get upset that I don’t write faster.”

A production insider claimed the film may go back in time – paving the way for dead characters to return.

The source said: “With the Game Of Thrones universe there is much rich material and no constraints on when that story will take place.

“They are looking at dipping back in time during certain periods of the series, which could be examined as a one off plot. That means that some of the big characters who fans have seen die on screen could be resurrected such as Robb Stark, Catelyn Stark, Oberyn Martell The Red Viper – and Ned Stark.

“George has written about a raft of other characters in the books, which have been as long as 1,200 pages.

“Some of those could be used for a completely separate idea and plot. George has created such an expansive universe of characters over 8,000 years of history, the possibilities are endless.”

Despite the film plans, show writer David ruled out extending the TV series to ten seasons.

He said: “No way in hell because we know what the end is and we’re rapidly approaching it.”
