I'm hoping something'll cure them, and they will stand and fight with Neville.

I was thinking that too, but with so many years since they have been cursed I dont see that happening, but then again in the fifth book she was up and walking and she recognized Neville so you never know

they're already totally useless, why would the death eaters waste time killing them?

I'm glad they didn't come into the picture in any way. If they'd got better and fight with Neville or anyone, it would've COMPLETELY ruined the essential point and the powerful element their torture had to the story and some of the characters.

I mean, what would be the point of having them tortured into madness, if they're just going to get all better in time and fight like everyone else, who hadn't gone through something so cruel and extreme. Plus, it would've been unrealistic. Even though Alice seemed a bit better in 1995, there is no way in hell she or Frank could've all the sudden taken a huge leap into sanity in only 2 years. After 14 years of insanity caused by having been tortured.

Of course I have never been tortured the way they were but I'd reckon it never really stopped in their minds even if they didn't seem like understanding or regognizing anything.

I always thought their part in the story was exactly to be left aside so tragically, but still remain impottant in emotional and moral level.

And as said, there would be no point for the DEs to kill them as they were no threat to anyone what-so-ever.

There would've been no point nor need, for them to make a comeback, because they never really left but were playing their part all along.
