Hogwarts House Rivalry! Article: Why Gryffindor is over-rated

OK, please don't hate me for this. I don't hate ALL Gryffindors. I just think the House itself is over-rated.

All the Weasley's were in Gryffindor. As they are the nicest people in the whole book, and প্রণয় Harry, people প্রণয় them. Therefore they প্রণয় Gryffindor.

Gryffindors basicly owned Hogwarts when Harry's parents attened Hogwarts. James and Sirius mocked the living hell out of Snape, while their two allies looked on. All four of them just happen to be Gryffindor. Weird, hey?

Isn't it a bit unfair, while Harry and co. were at Hogwarts, the head and deputy head were both Gryffindors. And twice Dumbledore gave them both huge amounts of points, securing the house-cup. When Slytherin were so close. But, hey, who cares? Gryffindor won, that's all that matters, right?

Ever noticed during matches of Gryffindor against Slytherin, all the Puffs and Ravies supported Gryffindor. Over-rated, huh? And also a teacher supports them (Yeah I mean Lupin) . For crying out loud, he admitted it!

During The Battle of Hogwarts, no Slytherins stayed, a few over-age Puffs and Ravies but almost half the Gryffindors stayed. Once again they end up looking like the heroes.

Here is a conversation I had with my বন্ধু who haven't read all the বই yet:

Me: If আপনি went to Hogwarts, what House would আপনি like to be in?
Noelle: Which House was Harry in?
Me Gryffindor.
Noelle: Oh well that's were I want to go.
Emma: Yeah, Gryffindor! That's the best House! Hermione and Ginny were in it.
Caitlin: Yeah, cause Ginny is really cool and she's in Gryffindor.

Proof?

I hope you're not offened. I'm not saying Gryffindor is bad. I'm just saying everybody likes it too much.

LifesGoodx3 First I [i]agree[/i], I think Gryffindor is overrated, but I don't agree with all of your points. 1) It'd only an opinion that the Weasleys are the "nicest people in the series". Many people may agree, but it's not a solid fact. You can't really use your own opinion when backing up [i]another[/i] opinion, as not everyone will agree. 2) IT [i]was[/i] rude that Dumbledore had announced that Slytherin had the most points, but then just took it way from then. It was like, "You win, lol jk, Gryffindor does," But I think he would have done that for any house that deserved points. He seemed like a fair man to me. Although I don't agree with how he announced that Gryffindor won that year. 3) Lupin supporting Gryfindor isn't a surprise. He is a Gryffindor! Would you expect him to support another house? I think most of the teacher support the house they belong to. 4) A trait of Gryffindors is courage. I makes sense that most Gryffindors stayed. The Slytherins left because either A) They supported the Death Eaters or B) They have "developed senses of self-preservation" which means they do not want to be caught in a middle of a war. 5) Your last reason is why I think Gryffindor is overrated. A lot of people say they are/want to be in Gryffindor just because the trio were.

RavenclawRocks 3- But isn't it a bit stupid that Harry and co. keep going on about how unfair it is that Snape favours the Slytherins. Nearly the whole school favours the Griffs. And by the way LG, what House are you in? I just realised, I don't know...

Poseidon3 Well, I strongly disagree with every point except that some people wanna be like the trio. So Dumbledore Gryffindor the points they deserved and Gryffindor won instead of Slytherin. Big Whoop.So the Marauders attacked Snape and "ownedd Hogwarts.' Malfoy and his cronies did the same thing. So the Puffs and the Ravenclaws supported Gryffindor. The Slytherin students and players were mean and unfair. So Gryffindor is basically the only house that stays and they end up looking like heroes. Is that their fault that really they were the only ones? No! The other houses were very welcome to fight!

Ninja-Kitten @Poseidon, But Dumbledore announced it in a very cruel way. As I already said in my article, imagine that the situation was reversed. You've just sat down and are happy to have won the house cup, and suddenly it's all yanked away and given to your rivals Not very nice huh? Malfoy and his gang certainly did not "own" the school. They were idiotic and stupid and only got by on their family connections. They also picked on someone who had FRIENDS and a life. James and Sirius were intelligent and already had lots of friends, they didn't have to bully poor Severus just to make themselves feel better. Snape didn't have anyone but Lily, and James took that away AND bullied him. @RavenclawRocks, I agree with you, but your points are a bit out of line. Slytherin has a natural affiliation with the Death eaters, of course they didn't stay and fight! The Puffs and Claws supported Gryffindor because Slytherin is a loner house and probably didn't want their support anyways. More to the Battle of Hogwarts point, "they end up looking like heroes". They were heroes. But they were heroes to THEIR side. Winner's always get to tell the story. Bellatrix was always my hero. His last, best lieutenant. EDIT: Added a point

Poseidon3 @ Lexa Where do you get the idea that Dumbledore announced it in a cruel way? He simply said " Yes, well done Slytherin. However recent events must be taken into account. I have a few last-minute points to award." If had said 'well I favor Gryffindor so I'm giving them the Cup for that reason,' it wouldn't be fair, would it? But what he said sounds fair, not cruel, to me. So if Slytherin students were the ones that saved the Stone and not Gryffindor, then Slytherin would have deserved and won the house Cup for the students' crucial contributions. I agree with you on your second point that both of the trios were bullies and acted like they owned the school when they really didn't. So if that applies to both Slytherin and Gryffindor students, that shouldn't be an argument of Gryffindor being over-rated because one could say the same thing for for Slytherin.

Ninja-Kitten May I ask why you edited your post? It's always polite to specify... 1. Did you not read what I wrote? You've just sat down and are happy to have won the house cup, and suddenly all your house colours are taken down and replaced with those of your rivals. That seems pretty cruel to me... 2. I'm not exactly sure what you're saying...But I am saying that the Gryffindors got away with it because they were the good guys. No one cared that Sirius and James bullied Severus, but when Malfoy goes after Potter, everyone gets up in arms.

HecateA ^Isn't that pretty much all the HP related places where we fans are free to stomp around though? @Lexa Okay, I do agree with you. Dumbledore should never have uttered the word 'Slytherin' during his speech, he should have just given points and never have let the Slytherins think they'd done it. And there were people who cared about Snape being bullied. Lily did, even if it was her own house (sure she hated him, but hey), I know people who were like 'James and Sirius did what to him?', Harry wasn't thrilled when he found out and I certainly care a lot more about Snape then I do about Malfoy (he's a little idiot with a rich important daddy- a rich kid playing bad boy). Because Harry, Ron and Hermione cna handle themselves. Yes, Malfoy did get cruel -especially with Hermione- at some points and taunting Harry about his mother was really bad; but they had the power of 3 ,and 3 good people and wizards at that. Whereas Snape was the solo with family problems as well. It's like in a wolf pack; Snape was the omega, the lowest of the lows, and he was picked on. And Lupin favors Gryffindor... Well, you'll be seeing Snape and Slughorn go for Slytherin, Sprout for 'Puffs and Flitwick for Ravenclaws, then. And then the Slytherins didn't stay for the fight. Well, I'm sorry but if you'd have told me the 4 houses had choices to stay, I would probably have said 'Slytherins won't' for the same reasons LG said.

For those who disagree, imagine this: You done really well in a test and scored 99%. Your teacher is congratulating you. But suddenly, just when you're feeling so happy, she/he says "However, (Insert your worst enimies name here) __________ did extra credit that you knew nothing about and couldn't do anything, so I'm going to give it to ________ instead. Pretty sore, huh?

chameleonare I definitely agree with you while Gryffindor is my favorite house (not because the main characters were sorted there but because it I honestly think suits my personality) it really bothers me when I ask people what house they'd be in and there like oh i'd be in Gryffindor because Harry's in it. They just kind of give everyone who honestly believes they'd be sorted there because thats what their personality is a bad name and i'll just cut off my rant now or we'll be here a while

Ninja-Kitten The fact that the Slytherins didn't fight for Harry during the Battle is not a strike against them. He's YOUR hero, not ours.

wotcher-tonks I agree, Gryffindor house is overrated. But the only point I agree with here is that people only want to be in Gryffindor because of the trio, but that would have happened with any house they were sorted into.

GreekRULES515 I half agree though for the Hogwarts battle what do you expect they're BRAVE for crying out loud so obviously they'd all be stupid enough to want to fight....plus I think Percy should have been in Ravenclaw

LucianaC I defiantly think that you're right,and that Gryffindor is VERY much over-rated,however,Gryffindor is not THE BEST house. Every house at Hogwarts has at least one flaw,that proves the fact that nobody's perfect. And I'm in Slytherin,and PROUD of it. I strongly believe that Slytherins are ,misunderstood,everybody thinks we're plain EVIL but we're not.Gryffindor house is in most people's opinions,the best because J.K.Rowling focuses the spotlight on Gryffindor house.Otherwise,if Slytherin had been on the throne,everyone would be carving Slytherin.Slytherin is not all that bad,people just judge it by people like Draco,which makes the whole community judge Slytherin by the Malfoy git.Gryffindor is judged by the famous HARRY POTTER and because he has all that bravery,but also arrogance,everyone thinks Gryffindor is THE BEST.And just look at Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.They're basically just like extras for a movie.Generally,people don't really give a damn about them because they don't play such a big part like Gryffindor. benking10 In fairness Slytherin was forced or encouraged to join the dark side because they were treated terribly by most students in other houses and always stereotyped at being evil because the most dark wizard came from Slytherin and it wasn't actually the kids fault for having pure-blood and being put in Slytherin. benking10 This would have been better in my opinion. Harry:Gryffindor. Hermione : Ravenclaw. Ron: Hufflepuff. And another character that was good put into Slytherin and that would have been the golden quadruple.

Bobinni I don't believe that Gryffindor is over-rated, Harry potter was a Gryffindor so it would make sense that Gryffindor was the most observed House in Hogwarts...I do feel that Hufflepuff Should've been more recognized and better acquainted, but that's just my personal opinion because I'm a Hufflepuff girl...

Everyone says HufflePuff's are 'useless'. There are still lots of important HufflePuff's! Take Cedric Diggory for example. He took part in the TriWizard tournament and got to the cup at the same time as Harry. Also, he let Harry take the cup with him and showed him the Prefect's bathroom!

OK. So HufflePuff's aren't as important as some of the Gryffindors but what would HP be without টঙ্কস্‌ অথবা Cedric? If Cedric hadn't of been chosen for the TriWizard Tournament he would never have died and Cho and Harry would never have kissed অথবা বিভক্ত করা up! And টঙ্কস্‌ is an amazing Auror! আপনি wouldn't expect her to be in HufflePuff but the Sorting Hat saw her destiny in HufflePuff!

So stop looking down on Puffs! We can be নায়ক like the Gryffindor's and clever like the Ravenclaws!
