Thud. That sound আপনি heard was one final challenger going down in defeat in TVLine’s March BADness Bracket Tournament.

I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Best TV Villains Tournament Winner: Outlander’s Jonathan ‘Black Jack’ Randall | TVLine
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:

Of course, it makes sense, given that Black Jack (brought to vivid life by Tobias Menzies) is one of the most depraved characters to make the leap from literature to TV, a sadist in gentleman’s clothing who wants his victims not just to hurt, but to suffer.
Outlander Season 2 Review: The Frasers Take Paris With Stylish, Sexy Aplomb
The British soldier invaded hero Jamie’s psyche so thoroughly, for a brief time the otherwise stalwart Scot preferred the solace of death to a life knowing that his body and mind had been violated by Randall.
That may sound like a strange reason to laud a character, but in the twisted and malicious, malignant, murderous world of March BADness, it’s a first-rate résumé

Still think Hannibal Lecter should’ve won the whole thing.
I think he would have without the shady voting. :(
Do you have proof of that? Or are you just sore because your favourite didn’t win? Sure it’s suspect Kilgrave lost to Black Jack, however the Outlander fan base is quite active on social media. A single shout out via Twitter with the link sent out could’ve gotten many fans to vote for BJ at the last hour so to speak to give him the win. I’m sure the TVLine editors can shine some light on things if they wanted to. And if this was “rigged” as you claim, so what? Did the world end? It’s not like this is a scientific study that impacts people’s lives. (At least it shouldn’t. If it does impact your life, you need to get out more and actually love your life w/o imaginary characters)
Actually, that’s what happened. Many of us Hueghligans were unaware of the poll. A Menziatic did a shout out on Twitter the last day, and we jumped on it. Because NO one out bad our vilely creepy Captain *shudder*
Have you watched everyone else to be able to make that assessment? Or do you just know Hannibal and a few others in the brackets? I highly doubt you know all 60+ characters involved in these brackets. ;-)
You’re right, I did/do not watch every show the 64 choices came from. I have seen plenty of them, however, and I have certainly seen all the ones that were in the later brackets. It is just my opinion of the character of Hannibal, of which I was agreeing with an earlier commenter. I was not disparaging any other fan base specifically, nor even responding to any of their comments. But please, feel free to winky-face your condescension on my comment. I highly doubt I care.
Clearly there’s not enough people out there thinking he should’ve won. Hannibal isn’t really as evil as some of the characters on this list. That said, Dexter should not have been on here at all. He isn’t evil as much as he’s an anti-hero.
There were some unexpected twists along the way, but I can’t say that Black Jack isn’t a worthy winner for this tournament.
I was rooting for killgrave or angelus but black jack is a decent enough to baddie to of won. There’s no debate on whether or not he is truly evil as opposed to dexter (a killer who only kills bad people).
Hannibal should have won. He would literally eat Jonathan “Black Jack” for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Nope. Hannibal doesn’t stand a chance against Randall’s type of evilness. I stopped watching Hannibal seasons ago because it got stale very quickly.
Hannibal is far more evil than Black Jack and definitely would dispose of him quickly. Maybe he would make Black Jack eat himself?
As much as I despise BlackJack on Outlander, I still believe Kilgrave is the baddest of them all…
Me too. They’re both solidly reprehensible psychopaths, but I felt Kilgrave had that extra edge.
While not the character I would have pegged to win, I’m glad he at least beat out Dexter, who is a hero at best and an antihero at worst.
I can’t trust any villain poll that didn’t have Lorne Malvo in it.
Who is Lorne Malvo? Your childhood school bully?
Why the hell would I list name someone on here if they WEREN’T a TV character? If you used Google, you’d see he was the main villain on Season 1 of “Fargo”. But I guess you were too busy voting for and rewatching Outlander for the thousandth time to know who he was.
You can view the whole first season right now for free at Starz website. The show is based on a book series that has been around 20 years.
Not surprised – although he did have some pretty tough competition with Kilgrave. Either one of them could have taken the whole thing. You’re right, though, Tobias Menzies is just brilliant in such a sadistic role.
those who didn’t watch Outlander don’t have the right to complain, tbh.
Since that’s pretty much everyone, how did this rando win?
haha, perfect response. Was thinking the same thing.
Dying of cancer. (Too soon?). Seriously though, Walter wasn’t half as evil as some of the folks in these brackets.
Better question is why the hell didn’t Gus Fring make it further.
Tobias Menzies is an excellent villain! Shows how good an actor he is…
This Outlander fan base is ridiculous. They stuffed the ballot box for this to get him to win this when, imo, he should have lost to the ruthless Frank Underwood who has done much worse, than torment one woman.
I would like to see a tournament go down through a poll system that is hack proof. I wonder if Blackjack would have still won then. (I doubt it)
Outlander is based on books that have been around for 20 years. The fan base was huge before the show even started.
There are hundreds of Outlander fan group on Facebook alone, probably thousands of groups, really. There are groups based just on voting for Outlander things. Word spreads.
If Outlander isn’t winning a poll it’s because none of the groups have found about it yet.
Not likely a bunch of hackers are taking time to hack polls in Outlander’s favor. It’s just a huge fan base.
yeah, you seriously need to watch the show if you’re gonna make that comment. Especially since he didn’t “torment one woman” he tormented a group of people because he thought, being English, he was better than them. He tortured and raped people. He specifically set his sights on one man, but throughout the show (and book) he caused suffering to many.
Actually, Black Jack’s biggest victims were both big, burly Scots. One he left covered in both physical and mental scars, the other was so horribly abused that he committed suicide. We saw him leave another soldier a quivering mess, and we saw assault and abuse two women. Most of this he did with a grin.
Social media fandoms skewed the results of this contest I bet. If not a hacker with a knowledge of IP proxys, could vote as many times as they liked. And it wouldn’t even be hacking, it’d just making themself appear like more people. But it would take back hacking to figure out if someone did that, so that’s why we’ll never know.
Real big bad wasn’t even in this contest, if any one has seen SG-1, Anubis would win.
Oh my. Now THAT brings back memories! Anubis was a good villain, indeed.
It was obvious. No-one is worse than Blac Jack, no-one!
Meh, was rooting for Kilgrave to take the whole thing. But Black Jack is vile enough so that the tournament isn’t a complete dud.
I think it definitely ended with the correct result because of how much of Black Jack Randall’s terror was brought on the screen. There were about two full episodes worth of him being anyone’s worst nightmare. I don’t get how dexter made it to the finals. He was too complex of a character to be an ultimate villain. I think the match ups on the other side were done poorly. For one, it was all organized by type of bad guy, but some kinds are straight up worse than others. Also these kinds of polls are always popularity contests. Just about everyone involved in this knows dexter, but he was often against lesser known villains. So he won groups he probably shouldn’t have. Also I’m a little offended that all the female villains were put against each other. They certainly weren’t all the same make of villain but because not everyone watches shows with strong female characters (some of which are terrifying) we didn’t get the chance to see how many of them could have faired against male villains. But no matter what happened Black Jack was the worst villain on the board, so overall this was a success.
Best villain of all time is from a show one year old. He’s won so many awards for this role, correct? (/sarcasm)
Well considering Outlander is based on a book series that has been around for 20 years and has a huge following, Black Jack Randall has probably been around longer than some of the folks who were voting in the poll.
The first season of Outlander can be water for free on Starz right now. BJR is in many of the episodes but you can just skip to the last two for a good idea of what he’s all about.
He was nominated for a Golden Globe. How many others on this list were nominated?
He was nominated for a Golden Globe. How many others on this list were nominated this year?
Actually, yes, Tobias has already won several awards for his superlative work on this show, and been nominated for even more. As have the other two leads. It’s a truly finely cast and crafted piece of art.
not a doubt in my mind it would be black jack randall
