Often described as deer-like or bearing the head of a stag, the wendigo (also known as windigo, weendigo, windago, waindigo, windiga, witiko, wihtikow, and numerous other variants)

It is thought of variously as a malevolent cannibalistic spirit that could possess humans or a monster that humans could physically transform into. Those who indulged in cannibalism were at particular risk,

 and the legend appears to have reinforced this practice as a taboo.

 is the name conventionally given to a disputed culture-bound disorder featuring an intense craving for human flesh and the fear that the sufferer would turn into a cannibal. This was alleged to have occurred among Algonquian native cultures.

Recently the wendigo has also featured in modern horror fiction. There are also many camp stories about the Wendigo.

A Shtriga (Shtriga for female and Shtrigu or Shrigan for male) is an albanian witch which …

Definition: A Shtriga (Shtriga for female and Shtrigu or Shrigan for male) is an albanian witch which feeds of peoples life force, its preference is for children as their life force is said to be stronger but it can feed off adults if need be. they go through entire families sucking the life out of each it turn before moving on to the next family. children who had been drained became seriously ill almost instantly and would just waste away in comas and die. they only require nourishment every 15 - 20 years. 

Abilities: by taking the life force of others they gain longevity. they also posses superior strength and speed and are invulnerable to most normal knives and bullets. 

Folk law: according to Albanian folklore, a Shtriga was a vampire-like witch who was said to suck the blood of infant children while they slept, and then turn into a flying insect. this of course is about as wrong as you can get though. ledgends also say that victems can be cured but only the shtriga herself could cure those she had drained (often by spitting in their mouths), and those who were not cured inevitably sickened and died. (in fact striga do not drink blood but take the energy straight from the soul, because of that they can’t feed of the soulless or a body that had been dead for more than a year). they were blamed for unexplainable infant deaths right up in to the 20th century.

Protection against them: we never actually bothered figuring out how you can protect yourself against them but according to albanian history only a strong belief in god could make you immune.  taking a pinch of salt between your fingers then touching your closed eyes, mouth, heart, chest on the opposite side to your heart and the pit of your stomach before throwing the salt in direct flames saying “syt i dalçin syt i plaçin” or just repeating the words 3-6 times under your breath helps to ward them off and that to keep the ‘evil eye’ and from that a Shtriga away from babes or beautiful girls - who were also said to be at risk - people would say “marchalla” and touch their noses but … 

i’ll take that as a complement … but also according to folk law garlic is supposed to repel them since they were also believed to be vamperic and gathered life force from drinking the infants blood, it says that she/he would then go and regurgitate the blood and that a silver coin soaked in the blood and wrapped in cloth acted as an amulet offering permanent protection from any shtria so the level of attention that should be payed to folk law should be cautious at best. 

Killing them: they are actually surprisingly hard to kill and must be ether shot or stabbed in the heart with iron while feeding. 

Appearance: they are usually described as old or middle-aged women with grey, pale green, or pale blue eyes (called white eyes or pale eyes) (sybardha) and crocked nose they are also often pictured as a woman with a hateful stare (sometimes wearing a cape) and a horribly disfigured face. we found that in fact they appear normal during the day but change in to their true hagged form at night when they feed. 

In other cultures: Shtriga are also present in italian, romanian and polish folk law. their name varies only very slightly: strega in italian (Strix - roman), striga in romanian and strzyga in polish and they all share almost identical beliefs and folk law on them. 

one further note is that they enter childrens bedrooms by the window and leave long hand prints burned in to the window ledge

so anyway, sam’s shot gun is a Ithaca M37 shotgun 12-guage.

you’re only saying that cause mine is better and you’re jealous

i’ve also got jo’s shot gun still which is a Winchester Model 1887 with sawed-off stock and barrel 

we’ve got a Remington SPR210 Shotgun - 12 Gauge which hardly gets used. 

along with a Remington 870 with Surefire - 12 gauge. and the Remington 870 Police Magnum Riot Shotgun - 12 Gauge that belonged to our grandfather nether of which really deserve mentioning but sams making me add everything.

and last but not least (and not a shot gun but still) we have a Heckler & Koch G3SG/1 - 7.62x51mm NATO

hey guys so his is a little post about everything you’re basic hunter should have with him/her at all times (or at least at very close hand). 

i bet you already know a lot of these though, smart people:

SALT: throwing or shooting straight rock salt at a ghost forces them to dissipate temporarily and also causes them pain. because of its purity it has power over the impure and evil. a line of salt at windows and doors of a room or drawn in a circle around you keeps ghost, demons, vampires and even hell hounds from being able to get at you so long as the line remains unbroken. 

HOLY WATER: dean and i always have a little flask of the stuff on us and you’ll find bottles and jars of the stuff everywhere in hunters houses. there are two ways of making the stuff. see deans tutorial here 

PETROL: the unmentioned 3rd item of any salt and burn case. lighter fuel will do the trick if you can get straight petrol and so will brandy or whisky or any one of the hard liquors dean drinks every day will also work fine. 

MATCHES OR LIGHTERS: essential, end of. and make sure they work properly! 

FLASH LIGHT: see what you’re doing (can i say duh?) haha

LOCK PICK: bobby pins are a substitute but harder to use. 

sort of goes without saying but you’re also going to need weapons: see the Weapons page for a list. 

lesser essentials you might not think about but are somtimes the difference between life and death or are just plain useful are:

DUCK-TAPE: great for keeping monsters quiet and tying them up. 

also great for shutting your brother up when the occasion calls for it.

ROPE: dont hunt without it, if you’re not on a simple salt and burn case, just in case

FIRST AID KIT: getting hurt is just one those things that happens on practically every single job as be sure to have an emergency kit for dealing with cuts and the like. 

BINOCULARS: help you see what you’re up against from a safe distance so you dont go charging head first in to a trap.

ANTI POSSESSION CHARM: this one really can be the difference between life and death so make sure you have one. dean and i have the anti possession symbol tattooed as im sure you know but you dont have to be so drastic, a simple charm on a bracelet or necklace works just as well. i’ll get dean - who’s taken over writing up the ‘staying safe’ page tutorials - to post up some examples of what you can do to stop possession and a few little charms you can use

FAKE ID’s: possibly the most useful thing you will ever own as a hunter. go for an FBI ID without hesitating, it makes the job of getting info easy.

it can fend off and hurt (but not kill) demons, pretty useful stuff. 

its a lot more complicated then you might think. this is how to do it from the method in dads journal (blessings and salt) and requires 3 steps:

3.-Say the following as you sprinkle salt into the water mov ng your hand in the shape of a cross. 

“Commixtio salis & aqua pariter f at, in nomine patris & filii, & spiritus sanct Amen. Dominus vob scum, Et cum spiritu tuo, Oremus: Deus inv ctæ v rtutis author, & insuperabilis imperii rex, ac semper magn cus trumphator qui adversæ dominationis v res reprimis, qui inimici rugient sævitam superas, qui hostiles nequit as potens expugnas te Domine trementes & supplices deprecamur ac petmus ut hane creaturam salis & aquæ aspicias benignus i ustres pietatis tuæ rore sancti fices, ubicunq; fuerit aspersa, per invocat onem sanct tui nominis, omnis infestatio immundi spiritus abjiciatur, terrórq; venenosi serpentis procul pe atur, & præsent a sancti spiritus nobis misericordiam tuam poscentibus ubiq; adesse d gnetur, per Dominum nostrum Jesum Chr stumf lium tuum, qui tecum vivit & regnat in unitate spiritus sancti Deus per omnia sæcula sæculorum, Amen.”

“In a pinch, you can skip from the "exorciso te” r ght to the “per Dominum nostrum Jesum.” I tried it. It works"

but sam and i found a shorter version which works just as well. the blessing ritual is:

“Exorcizo te, creatura aquæ, in nomine Dei Patris omnipotentis, et in nomine Jesu Christi, Filii ejus Domini nostri, et in virtute Spiritus Sancti: ut fias aqua exorcizata ad effugandam omnem potestatem inimici, et ipsum inimicum eradicare et explantare valeas cum angelis suis apostaticis, per virtutem ejusdem Domini nostri Jesu Christ: qui venturus est judicare vivos et mortuos et sæculum per ignem.

Deus, qui ad salutem humani generis maxima quæque sacramenta in aquarum substantia condidisti: adesto propitius invocationibus nostris, et elemento huic, multimodis purificationibus præparato, virtutem tuæ benedictionis infunde; ut creatura tua, mysteriis tuis serviens, ad abigendos dæmones morbosque pellendos divinæ gratiæ sumat effectum; ut quidquid in domibus vel in locis fidelium hæc unda resperserit careat omni immunditia, liberetur a noxa. Non illic resideat spiritus pestilens, non aura corrumpens: discedant omnes insidiæ latentis inimici; et si quid est quod aut incolumitati habitantium invidet aut quieti, aspersione hujus aquæ effugiat: ut salubritas, per invocationem sancti tui nominis expetita, ab omnibus sit impugnationibus defensa. Per Dominum, amen.”

the quick alternative to all that jazz is to use rosary in the water instead of salt with the incantation:

what he said, it takes a lot of time to learn hunting on your own so we’re just helping speed up the process. any questions just ask the sexy winchester and his moose - dean 

if you can memorise this it can get you out of some pretty tricky demon situations. Dad never had us memorise these but we leant after a few occasions with snatched books and windy pages, sammy’s better with it though, i’ve been in a few sticky moments of forgetting words. 

best one to try an learn completely is this one, its complete and short … ish.

this one is slightly longer, still not to hard to remember:

Sam like this one, cause he’s such a smart ass and can remember it all, its the rituale romanum:

thing with exorcism rituals is there are so many frickin’ variations. almost all of ‘em work its just down to your preference. here’s another one:

there is also the \'vade’ retro satana’  which is a medieval catholic exorcism:

hey, so i thought i’d start off with a little run through of our arsenal since i’ve seen a lot of people wondering about what kind of guns we have. starting with handguns in this post and shotguns and other weapons in different posts:

my ‘main’ gun is a nickel taurus PT92 with pearl grips. it’s a Brazilian-made “Wonder Nine” based on the original Beretta 92.

its trust worthy and though its heavyish its a good balanced weight. dean’s got one too but he doesnt use it much anymore. it gives great precision with a laser light. 

and its customised! … look you know what, its my gun let me introduce it!

its got less capacity then sammy’s but ive always been a better shot anyway … 

i got it customised with the scroll detailing and the ivory grips and chrome plating. its a all round great gun but needs trigger discipline. we’ve got a standard M1911A1 too. 

then we both have beretta 92FS’s which are really similar to mine 

then there is the smith and wesson 5906 i gave sam in the early days:

but that hardly ever gets an outing anymore. 

and we’ve both got glock 17s which are an FBI used gun but they look frickin’ ugly so we dont use \'em. 

The legendary revolver that can kill anything. Built by Samuel Colt himself for a hunter (although it’s thought that he built it for himself). The night that Halley’s Comet flew over head and the night that all the men died at the Alamo, Samuel Colt created this weapon, along with 13 silver cartridges. He carved a pentagram into the handle, engraved a quote from the 23rd Psalm, and a high priest blessed it.

its a single action gun but hey, it was made in a different time. it can kill practically everything minus 5 things according to lucifer, but we haven’t come across anything it cant kill while it was in our possession. 

there are a lot of theorys among us who know about the colt as to who else, apart from lucifer, it cant kill. but we don’t know for sure that any of the theories are right or wrong …

yeah, son of a bitch wasn’t specific enough with his info

the two theories that seam most likely are that the other things it cant kill the four horsemen (making it five things with the addition of lucifer). 

i think it cant kill the 4 archangels: Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Rafael. but having met death a few times im good with believeing the sams version.

hey guys, so this is all pretty new but i just wanted to start getting the word out that yes dean and i have a blog now and we’re going to be useing it not just to answer your questions (which we are very much looking forward to) …
