Why does Maria প্রণয় the Captain?

I am just trying to figure out why Maria fell in প্রণয় with the Captain. I know why the Captian fell in প্রণয় with Maria-she brought সঙ্গীত back into his life and encouraged him to প্রণয় his children and not avoid them. So, why did she fell in প্রণয় with him back?

But in my opinion it's because of the kindness she eventually saw in him, and the প্রণয় he develops for the children. The first time আপনি really see her look at him with obvious প্রণয় is when he agrees to sing Edelweiss for the children.
