Caroline Dries discusses the flash-forward aspect of The Vampire Diaries Season 7.
Flashes of three years in the future have been a staple of
seventh season, and those flash-forwards will continue to be a part of the show coming up. Tonight’s episode “Live Through This” contains a particularly explosive glimpse at the future that will have people talking for days.
held yesterday at The CW, Executive Producer Caroline Dries talked about the flash-forward aspect of the series, including the recent appearance by Michael Trevino’s Tyler in the show’s future.
“The reason for putting Tyler in the flash-forward was to remind the audience ‘Look. Tyler’s still in this world. There’s still light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak, for these characters’,” Dries said. Also, he’s wearing a suit, and he’s seems to be happy. He’s doing something with his life. He is kind of like the success story of moving on from Mystic Falls. Then we’re going to see him in future episodes, and he’ll have an arc in it, and he is kind of the voice of ‘look, I got out. I succeeded’,” Caroline explained. “[He’s] somebody that we’re rooting for. He is going to have sort of a side story, if you will, that will help us towards the later part of the season, and introduce us to this new world that will be a mythology arc in the show.”
Dries is aware that it’s taking time to catch up with everyone in the flash-forwards. “We’re just trying to hit where everyone is right now, which is I know frustrating because it takes so long to hit everyone. But it’s just to give you a flavor of the world where we’re at and then we’ll start to tell an actual linear story once you’re oriented,” she said, adding that this flash-forward format will be going on “a while longer.” “It won’t be confusing what that plot line is, but we want to make it feel like there’s something actually going on besides these little snippets. You can actually follow a story if you were to splice it all together and lay it out linearly. It would actually make sense and tell a story,” she promised.
is new tonight (November 5) at 8PM with a new episode titled “Live Through This.” Preview images can be found below.
