"X-Men: Apocalypse" Producer Says Wolverine Cannot Be Recast

Thanks to a brief cameo appearance in 2011\'s "X-Men: First Class," Hugh Jackman has appeared in every "X-Men" film to date. But Jackman\'s role in this year\'s "X-Men: Apocalypse" has been a major question, as the character has not been confirmed to appear in the film. While speaking with Digital Spy, director Bryan Singer addressed the possibility of seeing Wolverine in "X-Men: Apocalypse."
"I can\'t talk about that," said Singer, keeping mum about the character\'s role in the film. While that one comment doesn\'t confirm or deny Hugh Jackman\'s appearance in the film, it doesn\'t rule out a possible cameo appearance for the character.
With the upcoming third "Wolverine" solo film marked as Jackman\'s last outing as Logan, both Singer and producer/writer Simon Kinberg agreed that the role wold be impossible to recast. "I do think you would want to figure out how to tell more Wolverine stories," said Kinberg. "So either we would try to entice Hugh to come back and eat more chicken and work out for a few months, or we would have to figure out a creative way to move forward. Honestly, I can\'t imagine anybody else playing the part, and there\'s not too many characters I can say that for."
"X-Men: Apocalypse" opens on May 27, 2016; the third "Wolverine" film is expected to open on March 3, 2017.
