Winter of 2011 Chapter 1. “Humphrey's day.”
"Incoming!" A pup yelled as he hurled down the পাহাড় in a log. "Tilt left!" Humphrey instructed. The pup forgot which way was which, so she accidentally tilted right. She picked up আরো speed as she sped down the steeper side of the mountain. The pup squealed with excitement as the log lifted into the air. She then landed the log and crashed into a pile of snow. Humphrey quickly ran over to make sure she was alright. When he got to her, she was laughing so hard she couldn't breath. Humphrey chuckled and then heard a sound come from behind him. Four other pups jumped in two logs and followed the girl's path. Humphrey grabbed the girl and raced out of the way as the other pups crashed into the same snow bank. "OK! That is enough lessons for one day." Humphrey announced. "AW!" All the pups shouted. They then picked up the logs and followed Humphrey down the safer side of the mountain to the dens.
"How was lessons today kids?" Tony asked as they passed him. "It was great!" The pups shouted. "That's good." Tony chuckled. Once the kids got near Humphrey's den, they put their logs away and raced home. Kate laughed as she finished new plans for the পরবর্তি hunt. "You're great with pups." Kate admitted. "Then why don't we make one of our own?" Humphrey asked. "You know mating season isn't until spring." Kate added. "I know, but last time I asked আপনি ব্যক্ত no." Humphrey mentioned. "It's just... I am the pack leader. I don't have much time to care for a pup, অথবা spend time with one." Kate explained. "I will help আপনি raise a pup, and trust me আপনি will have আরো time then আপনি think to spend time with one." Humphrey pointed out. "Why don't we just wait until spring. Then we can decide." Kate replied. "But I already decided. Please think about it, and talk it over with Eve অথবা Lilly." Humphrey pleaded. "Why Lilly?" Kate wondered. "Garth told me they already decided to have a pup. Maybe she can help with your decision." Humphrey explained. "I got to go help Eve with medical supplies. Please think it over." Humphrey added.
Eve saved six নেকড়ে who were severely injured in the battle against the southern pack. She was low on medical supplies and needed Humphrey to খুঁজুন for them in the woods. When Humphrey arrived, Eve gave him a তালিকা of basic things to gather in the woods. She then sent him off and cuddled with Winston. Humphrey headed into the southern নেকড়ে territory to get some pine sap. There was a large pine forest near the bottom of jasper and it is a perfect place to collect sap. Even though the territory still belongs to the southern wolves, Rachael scared them so much that they won't do anything to Kate's pack. Which allows Kate's pack to get খাবার and other supplies from their territory. After an hour, Humphrey made it to the pine forest. Sap dripped in endless supplies from almost every tree.
Humphrey walked up to the first বৃক্ষ and clawed off a lump of sap. It disappeared in the snow as it fell. Humphrey then put it in a small basket and scraped off another lump. He placed the সেকেন্ড lump into the basket and walked back towards Eve's den. On his way back, he gathered a few extra vines in case someone got a gash. Eve was glad to see him make it back OK, and was even আরো happy when she saw the giant lumps of sap. She then thanked him and sent him on his way.
Humphrey then headed up Garth's গর্ত where he stored extra food. When he arrived, Garth and Tony already had most of the খাবার laid out in the snow. When Tony saw Humphrey, he walked in the গর্ত and plopped on the floor. His back still was stiff and soar from his cracked disk. Garth then loaded Humphrey's basket with some soft meat for the younger wolves. It was mostly fresher meat and thinner pieces. Humphrey put some meat in for him and Kate, and wished everyone luck as he walked away.
He made it back to the dens just when dusk fell. The younger নেকড়ে grabbed their meat and ran back home. Kate was gone and left Humphrey a leg from a sheep. He took it to the middle of the গর্ত and gnawed on it. Glimpses of shooting stars flew across the sky as the moon came back out from the clouds. Then, Kate walked in the গর্ত and blocked the moon from his view. She had a weird expression on her face and then began to speak. "Humphrey, I decided about having pups."
