You may have seen this timeless beauty with an extensive television resume in such films as Evil Dead and Cloverfield. Canadian native Jessica Lucas is more than just a pretty face navigating her way through the entertainment hustle and bustle; she’s a classically trained laid back actress who prefers subtlety and simplicity over extravagance. With two feature films coming out in early 2014 – Pompeii, Now Playing – Jessica Lucas is ready to show the world the caliber of her acting. We chatted with the 28-year-old starlet to learn more about this rising star.

Can you tell us where you were born and what life was like where you grew up?

I’m very close to my parents. I was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. Vancouver was a really great city for a kid to grow up in because it’s really laid back. The scenery is very beautiful – very outdoorsy – and I spent a lot of time doing outdoor activities.

In school, my parents put me in everything from sports to singing lessons. Drama became the activity I connected with more. I started in a children’s theatre arts program when I was seven, and it was something I continued with up until I was a teenager.

You have an extensive television resume. Now, you’ve got a couple of movies coming out in 2014: Pompeii and That Awkward Moment. Tell us about your roles in both of those films.

That Awkward Moment is a romantic comedy starring Zac Efron, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan about three guys who have gotten out of different relationships, and they are single and scared of commitment. They make a pact to stay single together, but throughout the movie, they find it a difficult promise to keep.

And Pompeii is a very epic movie. It’s sort of like Titanic meets Gladiator. Kit Harington and Emily Browning play star-crossed lovers. They fall in love amidst this huge disaster, and I play Emily’s slave and confidant. “Slave” only because of the times, as I’m more like her best friend and the person she confides in. It’s a really cool role. It’s a period piece, obviously, and I got the chance to have a British accent. It was something very different for me on such a grand scale, and I’m very excited for people to see it.

Not many people know that you are a singer. You sang on Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son soundtrack. Any chance of you pursuing the singing side of your career?

I doubt that would ever be my full focus. I would want to use singing through a medium like musical theatre or Broadway. The idea of being Jessica Lucas in the spotlight is very terrifying for me. I’m quite shy [and] introverted, and to be THAT exposed…I don’t think I could do it.

Opposite leading man would probably be Ryan Gosling, and I think he’s incredible and quite sexy and it would be cool to be his leading woman. As far as someone I could learn from, I would say Cate Blanchett or Kate Winslet.

What is a fashion must-have that is in your closet? In other words, can you give our readers an idea of what you feel most comfortable in your skin wearing?

I think the most important thing for me is that I’m not super trendy, and I’m into classic pieces like a great T-shirt that I can wear forever or an amazing blazer or a leather jacket. I tend to be a mixture of classic and comfortable.

Can you tell our readers any beauty regimes you have to keep yourself looking good?

I use this line of skin care products out of Dallas called Renee Rouleau. I get facials every time the climate changes just to keep my skin nice and hydrated. If I follow anything strictly, I wash my face every night with their cleanser, moisturizer, [and] toner, and exfoliate a least once a week. I’m pretty simple; I don’t do anything too crazy.

What does a day in the life of Jessica Lucas entail?

There’s two versions of me. When I’m working, I’m pretty immersed in my shooting schedule, working out and prepping for what I have to do the next day. In my personal life, I don’t have a ton of hobbies. My typical day would involve getting up, going for coffee, [taking] a yoga class, hiking Runyon Canyon with friends and shopping, so it’s pretty laid back.

I am in between things right now. I have Pompeii and That Awkward Moment coming out this year. My goal is to diversify as much as possible and work in a variety of genres so that I don’t pigeonhole myself. I would love to be involved in a good television show because I love the direction where television is going.
