Imagine eating at your local sports bar when all of a sudden cheerleaders and Montell Jordan storm out of nowhere to interrupt your meal with his 1995 hit "This Is How We Do It."
Well, Montell did just that (watch above), transforming his enduring No. 1 R&B classic into a Super Bowl halftime show-themed jam for an unsuspecting crowd at Buffalo Wild Wings in Oakdale, Minnesota, as part of Pepsi\'s annual Hyped for Halftime campaign.

The remix, dubbed “Halftime’s How We Do It," and surprise performance are aimed at getting people pumped for Katy Perry\'s halftime headlining gig on Feb. 1.
Montell: I took about a week and a half to put together the song, the re-recordings, the band and everybody that would be traveling along with me to make this a monumental, really cool surprise. I\'ve been singing this song for 20 years so modifying the lyrics to fit the halftime theme wasn\'t that difficult to do but it was a lot of fun.
Montell: It\'s always shocking, even after 20 years, the impact that the song has on people. You see people who are grandmas and you see young kids hear the song and somehow they know it. Fortunately it\'s one of those songs that has transcended through time and whether you\'re more mature or whether you\'re a newbie to music, somehow that song transcends those different genres of color and age. It\'s become of stable of music in America and around the world.
: What have been some of your favorite halftime show performances?
Montell: I loved seeing Prince. I enjoyed very much the clothed Janet Jackson portion of halftime. I also really enjoyed Bruno Mars last year — what an incredible talent.

: Who would you want to see headline future halftime shows?
Montell: I don\'t remember if I ever saw Stevie Wonder do one. He\'s one of my favorite entertainers of all time. To see him do a Super Bowl with his classics would be something I would love to see or even be a part of. I\'m an R&B fan so maybe do a \'90s review where you get groups like Boyz II Men and acts like Mariah Carey, who has an amazing repertoire of songs. I\'m more of a \'90s guy, and other than that I\'m old school so I\'d recommend the Isley Brothers but I don\'t know if they\'d fit the bill.
: Rihanna is rumored to be part of the halftime show because she\'s Katy Perry\'s gal pal. Are you a fan of hers and would you mind seeing her up there?
Montell: I\'m a fan of music. I am a fan of Katy. I am a fan of Rihanna. Actually, I\'m very close friends with Rihanna\'s choreographer, so the dancing might be the work of one of my former dancers, Hi-Hat. She choreographed the dancing for one of my first music videos.
: Why is there such a connection between music and the Super Bowl?
Montell: Music is the soundtrack to our lives. There\'s power in music, and because of that when we think about the high points in our lives and the low points or great monumental events, there\'s normally music attached to it. With having one of the most televised programs of athleticism, you have to have something musically profound to keep people\'s attention and to attach this Super Bowl memory with some music. That\'s why the national anthem is important. That\'s why the halftime show is important. The fact that they got Katy Perry to do it is a great choice because she\'s a great musician and creative entertainer.
: What else can we expect from you this year?
Montell Jordan: A lot of people don\'t know, but I went into full-time ministry five years ago. I\'m a pastor now, which is one of the greatest decisions I\'ve ever made in my life. My wife and I recently wrote a book called
a Masterpeace — and it\'s spelled p-e-a-c-e. One of the things we hope to travel around the nation and maybe help some people that are struggling with their marriages. We\'ve been married for 20 years, so we\'re going to take "This Is How We Do It" to a whole new place to be significant in the lives of many. The book is coming out in the end of April.
Montell Jordan and wife, Kristin Jordan, arrive at the 44th GMA Dove Awards in Nashville on Oct. 15, 2013.
