‘The Maze Runner’ Star Kaya Scodelario Eyed for ‘Pirates 5’ Lead

With three films lined up for 2015, including the currently filming ‘Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials,’ Kaya Scodelario is emerging into a bright young talent to watch. And this fact has been made all the clearer by the recent report from Deadline that ‘The Maze Runner’ actress is currently in “early talks” for a part in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,’ the fifth installment in Disney’s lucrative roller-coaster series. First appearing as a teenager in the UK’s ‘Skins,’ Scodelario drew a good deal of attention for her role as Effy Stonem, eventually using that popularity to branch out into film, first appearing in Duncan Jones’ excellent sci-fi drama ‘Moon’ in 2009. With her current recurring role in the hugely successful ‘Maze Runner’ young-adult franchise, it’s likely that we’re going to be seeing plenty more of the young British actress in the next few years.

Details are relatively scarce on ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales,’ but we do know that ‘Kon-Tiki’ directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg are leading the charge, with series veteran Jerry Bruckheimer returning to produce. It looks as though Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow will be returning as well, with Geoffrey Rush’s Captain Barbossa, and the additions of Javier Bardem as the villainous and ghostly Captain Brand, and ‘The Giver’ star Brenton Thwaites on board as young British soldier Henry. We’re guessing that Scodelario’s role may be something of a love interest for young Henry.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ is scheduled for a July 7, 2017 release, and you can next see Scodelario in fantasy adventure ‘The Moon and Sun’ on April 10th. Stay tuned here for more.
