It was called Leonardo DiCaprio Joining World of Joker Movies? | Variety
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Leonardo DiCaprio as the Joker in the studio’s planned origin tale, according to sources. But it’s way too early to predict whether the versatile star might be interested, and no offer has been made.
The studio’s Joker standalone film, to be directed by Todd Phillips, is expected to have Martin Scorsese on board as an executive producer.
It makes sense that a Scorsese-led Joker would look to involve DiCaprio — they’ve teamed on “Gangs of New York,” “The Aviator,” best picture winner “The Departed,” “Shutter Island,” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
But the Joker project could be a real longshot since DiCaprio, who hasn’t made a movie since he won best actor for “The Revenant,” has been attached to numerous projects that never got made, some with Scorsese. The duo are currently in development on “Devil in the White City” and “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
Though he’s been the serious leading man in dramas such as “J. Edgar,” “Body of Lies,” “Revolutionary Road,” “Blood Diamond,” and “Inception,” he showed his capability as an evil villain in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained.”
DiCaprio has a good relationship with Jack Nicholson, the Joker in 1989’s “Batman.” The actors collaborated on “The Departed” and, as GIF-makers will attest, DiCaprio can do a mean Nicholson impression.
In late August, Warner Bros. unveiled two Joker projects — the standalone Joker movie with Scorsese and Phillips involved, which will not star Jared Leto; and an untitled tentpole movie starring Leto as the Joker and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who direct and exec produce NBC’s “This Is Us,” are in final negotiations to direct the Leto movie as part of the expanding DC Entertainment universe. Leto and Robbie will reprise the roles they played in the studio’s 2016 super-villain mash-up “Suicide Squad.”
Warner Bros. has been attempting to exploit the DC characters above and beyond its mainstay Batman and Superman characters to compete effectively against the ongoing success of the Disney-Marvel tentpoles. It succeeded this summer with the impressive performance of “Wonder Woman” as the fourth installment in the studio’s DC Extended Universe, which launched with 2013’s “Man of Steel,” followed by last year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad.”
Its next entry will come on Nov. 17 with “Justice League,” which will feature Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash and Ray Fisher as The Cyborg with Zack Snyder directing. The sixth entry is the “Aquaman” standalone movie, starring Momoa with James Wan directing. That movie, which began shooting in May in Australia, is set for a Dec. 21, 2018, launch.

Just because Scorsese’s Producing one of the Joker films, his name crops up… Imagine the casting call of some 10,20 years ago— ooh, Robert De Niro could be the character!
DiCaprio’s POSSIBILITY of acting the role is enough to get the DC fanboys excited and talking about anything to take rumor focus from Affleck not-playing Batman anymore, or the convoluted Whedon reshaping of the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie.
Just distracting Hollywood-Entertainment-Access-News-Tonight “fake news” blather like the PREVIOUS rumors/talk of Nicole Kidman being cast as Wonder Woman’s mother… Doug Liman or George Miller doing movies for the DC Films Universe… or JUSTICE LEAGUE being in 2 parts directed by Zack Snyder… etc. etc.
None of this really matters….Heath Ledger owns that role & any chance of topping his version of the Joker is a pipe dream….Nolan knew this & left it alone which is what everyone else should be doing….for arguments sake let’s say someone wanted to remake Goodfellas….there isn’t an actor dead or alive who could come close to Joe Pesci as Tommy….see what I’m getting at? Stop thinking about money for 2 seconds & appreciate perfection & a once in a lifetime performance & leave it alone already

Well, since LDC’s characters often go crazy and/or die, this would make him a good choice to play the Joker–especially if it’s a two tiered story: one storyline showing him going crazy; a simultaneous storyline showing his (apparent) demise fighting Batman.
….I have a feeling that Jay Leto might have SOMETHING to say about this……BTW I think that Leto’s version as seen in “Suicide Squad” was the closest portrayal to the murderous Joker as seen in the comics….
An R-rated mean and gritty Joker film in the vein of TAXI DRIVER and GOODFELLAS will be a big hit on one condition, Martin Scorsese directing! Get rid of Phillips. Scorsese and DiCaprio will be a powerful combination and give credibility to this genre since Christopher Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT trilogy, It has to be a strong and violent R rating within the underworld of crime!
No way he would do this. It’s just not his type of movie. No Joker movie will ever be as good as whatever other project he chooses.
I would prefer seeing Di Caprio doing “The Devil in the White City” or” Killers of the Flower Moon”.
Leo does what he does best, look pretty. But Nicholson he ain’t. It’ll be hard for him to break from his pretty face and give us something believable. It was hard enough for Ledger to do it (of which he was great). Leto couldn’t do it, imo. Like Afflex, they’re too much themselves and not enough the character.
