Sophie Turner Talks X-Men: Apocalypse and "Douchebag" Scott Summers
It's a huge year for X-Men fans, as Deadpool finally gets his long-awaited feature film, and
X-Men: Apocalypse introduces us to the rebooted version of the core team we know and love.
With Deadpool's marketing team doing incredible things, it's been comparatively quiet on the X-Men: Apocalypse front. However, we have learned a few new things about the upcoming film from Digital Spy, including Sophie Turner's (Jean Grey) thoughts on Jean Grey's two biggest relationships.
Jean and Professor X have always had a very close relationship, with Jean often his second in command. In
X-Men: Apocalypse, Jean will be a young teen, still getting a handle on her incredible psychic ability. According to Turner, her relationship with Charles is a very close one, especially as they are both telepaths.
Xavier seems to have this thing - not a sexual thing - for these young, vulnerable girls who feel alienated and uncomfortable in their own skin. They have this unspoken bond because he's telepathic as well, he's gone through the same things. He's very powerful and he sees that growing in her. He wants to protect her and help her control her powers, but also help her access the best of her ability. They have a really sweet relationship.
Although the two become equals in time, it sounds like we will see more of a father-daughter relationship in Apocalypse, with Charles as more of a mentor than a friend.
While Jean's relationship with Charles is a caring one, she doesn't start out on such good terms with her future husband, Scott Summers. According to Turner, the teenage Cyclops isn't exactly the greatest guy.
It's really interesting to see the young douchebag Scott, and the young, shy Jean, and watching them fall out and make up and this weird chemistry they have.
Tye Sheridan, who plays Scott, wants fans to know that his version of Summers isn't
just an asshole. He's like that because he's still young, and still coping with everything that has happened to him as a mutant.
A lot happened in his past, and he's damaged, and in this movie you kind of see why.
X-Men: Apocalypse promises a whole lot more than just the backstories of the young Pheonix, Cyclops, Jubilee, and Storm. We will be seeing more of the big-name characters who appeared in the original films (and some making their live-action debut). We will learn more about Magneto's history, Mystique's time as a mutant-rights activist, and see the franchise get darker than ever before.
