Why was Glenn Quinn storyline cut in Season One after nine episodes? Did the actor take time off?

Joss had always wanted to shock viewers of one of his TV shows দ্বারা killing off a main character quickly. He'd originally intended to do so in BtVS with Jesse, but they couldn't afford to have that actor in the credits/as a main.
