I admit I can be a bit bias and dislike a character and/or be harder on a character that I feel is mistreating one of my favorites. But for me it depends of what type of character they are and what is their purpose in the movie, and it generally only really bothers me when it’s a protagonist/protagonist relationship. For example a protagonist harming a villain I love generally doesn’t bother because the antagonist has likely done something to deserve it. Nor does a villain harming a hero I love, because that is their role in the story and their supposed to be evil, and I feel pretty much the same way about villain/henchmen relationships. But for some reason if I feel like a character that is supposed to be on the good-side is mistreating a favorite of mine, I have a really hard time liking them. The biggest examples of those are: original DuckTales Huey, Dewey and Louie, and their treatment of Scrooge, Webby and Launchpad, certain versions of Daisy where she really acts like Minnie is her doormat, and Lynda Flynn-Fletcher accusing Candace of being crazy/a liar. While I don't think they're very well done characters, so I probably wouldn't like them very much even even if it wasn't my favs they abusing, I also wouldn't have as strong a dislike as I do for them. The only time I can think of that a villain being treated poorly bothers me a lot, is in Zootopia where Lionheart was a jerk to Bellwether, which was a big part of what caused her to snap.
But conversely, I don't really hate Hans for what he did because he's just so cartoonishly evil it's hard to take him seriously, especially when we all know he'll lose. Or the Tremaines- we know they'll get what's coming to them. And they're completely portrayed as bad because they truly are. I guess how the movie or show presents it matters to me.
I feel Elinor is heavy-handed at the beginning of the film, but I root for her more than I do for Merida by the end of Brave.
Izaya(Durarara!) would be a good example of this idea as well. He was built as an antagonist from the ground up, of course other characters are going to hate him. It's just the nature of these types of characters.I hold no grudges against those who mistreat him, as he probably did something just as bad to them.
