Interestingly enough, in an interview for TVSquad last year, Ian Somerhalder, who can always be counted on to say something insightful into whatever situation he finds his character in, described Damon's প্রণয় for Katherine as "a figment of his imagination...I will be so bold as to say that Damon's not Team Katherine. It would help Damon if Katherine was gone অথবা dead."
Perhaps people who use this argument are thinking of 2x01, when Damon goes to Elena after being rejected দ্বারা Katherine yet again. However, this theory doesn't add up, because Damon has only wanted to be with Elena all along.
