I think Aurora and John Smith might actually work, since she needs a confident man and he needs a dreamy girl to open him up to philosophical things.

For a lesbian couple, I'd say Belle and Jasmine. They're both very headstrong and stubborn, but they could probably have a lot of fun together. And they have similar desires to go out and see the world, so they could do that. They'd also make great best friends. :)

And for gay couples, I'd get behind Eric and Aladdin. I've heard that it's জনপ্রিয় in some circles, and I don't know why, but I think it might work. Maybe because they're both young and fun. Or... Shang and Naveen. Shang needed to lighten up, and Naveen could take care of that nicely. ;)
