Vote for the one that changed the least. The DEADLINE is in the 2nd of December.
Tiana is another example of a character ( like Merida) who gets everything she wants after brow-beating others, and exercising zero emotional intelligence. It's Lottie who does the sacrificing of the most important "dream" by giving up Naveen so that Tiana can have him. Tiana already has her restaurant. Why Tiana needs a guy, when Tiana shows zero interest in romance at all... exemplifies one of Disney's major lapses in logic, and is why I don't appreciate TPATF.
Tiana and Merida go through some of the most development of all the princesses. I'm shocked people are voting for them. Tiana changes from a workaholic to someone who knows that there is a place for love and fun in her life. Merida learns to listen to her mother and that she was selfish. She even gives a big speech, enthralling members from all four clans, in which she uses her mother's teachings (which she previously refused to do), and is even on the brink of choosing a suitor before her mother stops her! Then she later gives a heart-wrenching apology to her mother during which she's literally sobbing, and admits all of her mistakes and acknowledges that her mother really had been there for her the whole time. After this we see her collaborating on a tapestry with her mother (again using her mother's teaching, which she had previously refused to do), and laughing and joking with her suitors. She grows from a petulant, bratty, selfish girl into an understanding and empathetic woman.
Compare that to Aurora, who does literally nothing except dance in the forest. She doesn't learn any overarching morals, nor does she grow as a character.
^ IMO the only things Ariel and Merida have in common are red hair... Ariel is more accepting of her father's opinions (although maintaining her own), while Merida decides to actually change her mother in order to get what she wants.
Who knows? Paradoxically, Elinor might have been hesitant to have Merida leave the nest so soon after all...because Elinor is shown to be quite clingy to Fergus, stern with the triplets and Merida...and displays issues with empty-nest syndrome, even in the first half of the film. Elinor feels "that she must" do something to continue the kingdom...but relies on tradition too heavily. And for one who is so controlling, Elinor really would suffer from empty-nest syndrome if her oldest child left. Human psychology plays a role.
Merida is the opposite of Aurora. That's for sure. Merida changes her mother's perspective to match her own perspective. Aurora changes her heart and mindset much more quickly than Merida does.
Also, watch carefully on the docks scene. Merida's face is wearing a gross expression when the prince is kissing her hand. Merida is trying to pull her hand away. Yeah. No change, there.
And finally, Merida wears the most gleeful expression and the brightest smile when she is astride Angus and racing her mother through the forest again. Not when she is facing the tapestry or the princes. Merida has the same mindset. Elinor has changed her mind about it all. You see the change in Elinor. I don't see the change occuring in Merida.
And if you are referring to that speech Merida made in front of the clans... That scene would have worked to show Merida's real change in perspective if Elinor had not cut in and circumvented all of Merida's need to sacrifice her own interests. By Elinor saying that she was allowing Merida to break tradition-- that was all the license Merida needed to remain herself. Merida didn't need to change her mind after that.
Anyway, her or Snow, I can't decide which. Snow wasn't supposed to develop, in fairness, though I guess you could argue she learns dreams and wishes do come true? Jasmine doesn't learn anything or grow, but also in her defense, she isn't the main character.
But Merida, really? the whole movie is about her development. She had behaved like a selfish brat and slowly grew up and in the end worked to fix her bad mistake and truly appreciated Elinor. that's character development.
also, she is not an "ariel knockoff" even though they do have lots in common... but even if she was, what does that have anything to do with developing as a character (unless you're insinuating Ariel also is undeveloped, in which case, why not vote for her?).
this place always just votes for favorites and against least favorites without objectively looking at the characters and using logic. I'm sorry, but it's really frustrating and never stops. Merida has always been a least favorite and the bias is strong here.
Merida really? She's the most developed one, from a stubborn and irresponsible person to be more responsible and she's learning from her mistakes. I completely agree with MaidofOrleans and AudreyFreak that peoples here are vote her just because they hate her. Or they are never watch her movie as well. Stop to be biased please. Especially you wavesurf, all of your statements are irrelevant.
And you phalangeregina, you seems to never watch her movie as well and only judge.
One another reason to me for hate bias peoples. They always pick their least favorite princess in each countdown, without looking to the princess herself. Use logic please!
And logic is quite subjective when it comes to someone's evaluation of each princess. Not everyone will relate to Merida. No matter how many times I have explained my side, you always come up with saying I'm biased.
Which, ironically, just proves my point anyway.
And phalangeregina shouldn't be decried for never seeing a movie. She should be decried for being absolutely obsessed with her country and showing it on everything.
And a half ass apology (a whole speech to her mother, crying, begging to come back in front of everyone, easily 4-5 minutes long) is way better than no apology at all, which constitutes of a half framed sentence that doesn't include the line "I'm sorry". How does people draw a better apology from half a sentence than from an entire speech is beyond my comprehension.
And this whole premise of putting the blame of clans going to war bcoz Merida refuses to marry is biased in itself. How can one expect this? Will any of you get married bcoz the guy who proposed you has declared war/threatened on your family?
We love Aurora's stance of sacrificing her happiness for her people coz fortunately we already know who that prince is. Make a movie out of her getting married to someone else, imagine that life. You'll see the fault in that decision.
The point is whether one likes the development or not is separate point. The poll isn't about your favorite development of the character. It is about picking the least developed character.
Aurora has a very limited change, which is circumstantial in nature and will not last in her personality. She was wrecked by the truth but how did it change or develop her as a person? we never get to see that. My next pick would be Jasmine.
And then Merida and Elinor appear cliff-side astride horses...and only then is Merida wearing the brightest smile. Merida is back to being outdoors and racing horses. She has not changed her habits, her perspective, or her personality.
I'm sorry. But I have indeed looked at the screencaps. ( How else was I to figure out the saxon dogs hemline for my crochet Merida doll?) There is no needle in Merida's hand at that moment!!! Merida never has a needle in her hand, except for when she stitched back together the original tapestry her mother made after she took a sword to it. At the end of the movie, Merida is not stitching the new tapestry or sewing at all. She is, instead, admiring her mother's handicraft. Which is okay. But that's all.
But yeah, I don't see much development in Aurora.
And also, I don't mean to be rude with them. If they call me rude, they're just misunderstand with what I mean. It seems phalangeregina are just rate her with what peoples in her country think about her, I'm just...not sure if she already watch the movie yet.
Anyway, unlike with Merida there's no lesson for Ariel to learn or flaws to overcome - she remains essentially the same person she was at the beginning and gets everything she wanted.
Merida needing to grow and change is actually a major plot point in the movie, I agree that a lot of people are being blinded by their dislike for her/preference for other characters.
