I've always liked the 'love at first sight' trope

If these movies were meant to be realistic, it might be a problem. Since they clearly aren't, though, it's not an issue.

People don't watch Disney for realism.

I don't see what's wrong with that. Disney is all about fantasy fairytale romance stuffs.

except that kids can internalize the things they asssume can occur in real life, unlike talking crabs and such. and since society urges kids to get into relationships ASAP once they reach their teenhoods, well, yeah.

If we can suspend our disbelief for depression magically cured by the vague idea of loving yourself, people getting turned into household items, mermaids, or psychologically abused rulers somehow never having these issues affect their ruling, I think we can let fairy tale characters have fairy tale romances.

And yeah, what wave said. Most people like Disney for the escapism. I don't get why all the bizarre fantasy aspects or actually troubling messages some movies have people won't bat an eye at but an innocent romance is offensive.
