As I've said before: I think having a villain who wasn't entirely evil would have been much more interesting and added more depth to the tale. Showing a deeper character than just a vain woman would have been better imo. Thoughts?

I still believe that she did care for Rapunzel. But she also wanted her for her hair.

^That may be true, but I would've liked a witch-character who had no vain aspects and was just trying to be a good mother to her child, but took it a little too far (locking her in a tower for 18 years to protect her, not because she wanted to use the power for herself but because she really loved Rapunzel)

It makes me care for her less when she dies. I want no attachment to her.

I agree with tigerranma! The more evil the less I care!

She wouldn't have had to die if she was more sympathetic character. Lady Tremaine didn't die and I don't know anybody that liked her, but she still had her comeuppance.

She wouldn't be a villain if she truly loved Punz

With out this she will not be a Villian.

I'm totally with Disneyprince; I was waiting for her redemption. :'( She reminded me of the Witch from Into the Woods, except that that character's love for Rapunzel is unquestionable and doubtless. I love Gothel, and still have to believe that she did, in a way and to a certain extent, love her adopted daughter...
