Because when people spell incorrectly, you can still figure out what they're trying to say. When the grammar is wrong, sometimes you can't figure it out.

I wouldn't say that, it depends on what someone is saying, they can be equally indecipherable. I chose spelling because grammar can sometimes be difficult to pick up on if you're not told the specifics.

i agree with Michael becuase if a word is spelled wrong it can still be read. It is harder if the grammer is all off.

I have to say this was a toss up for me. Both are pet peeves, but lately, the atrocious misspelling of easy words (spell check, people?) has been grating on my last nerve. I do agree that bad grammar is more difficult to decipher, most of the time.

spelling is something you can learn butgrammar is something you need to have a knack for.

"Which is worse?" is surely more grammatically correct.

Also Fanpop's motto "What are you a fan of?" is a sentence ending in a preposition, out about which serious grammar activists would give.

Yes, every time I read the fanpop banner I think how grammatically incorrect it is... My freshman english teacher drilled into us the "no prepositions at the end of a sentence" rule.

Yes, but what could they change it to? "What things do you like?" The current motto is perfectly fine as many corporations use prepositions at the end of sentences.

I'm a bit undecided, it depends how bad the person is at grammar or spelling. I have friends who can spell alright but they can't use grammar to save their lives. Likewise, I know people who can't spell but can use grammar properly.

What really annoys me is words like 'your', 'you're' and 'their', 'they're' and 'there'. The amount of people that just guess which one they're supposed to use is astonishing. The same goes for 'two', 'too' and 'to'. I understand that it might be hard for people whose first language isn't English to figure out which is the correct one to use but I see many, many of my friends, most of them 14, using the wrong spelling even after being told the meaning.

I think bad grammar is worse because you can misspell a word and it can be an accident. Bad grammar can't be an accident.

Unfortunately, I am an occasional user of bad grammar. If it's atrociously bad grammar, make no mistake, I will correct you... but I am usually a good speller, so I feel less hippocriticalll if I correct someone on their spelling. haha.

It's not about understandment. I hate seeing people spell badly, it makes me wanna grab a pencil and correct. Grammar, I use incorrect grammar all the time. We all do because we all brake those annoying rules.

With spelling you can usually read what it says, but with grammar sometimes it's hard.

Bad spelling annoys me just that little bit more than bad grammar, such as spelling 'grammar' as 'grammer'.
Bad grammar is admittedly harder to decipher but I usually see a few words mixed around, where they shouldn't be, and that I can (just about) deal with, providing that the person writing it does not speak English as their first language.

I have caught so many grammatical and spelling errors in these comments :P

Incorrect spelling is definitely my biggest pet peeve. It really bugs me when people misspell really easy words. I agree with Ratdog when he talks about people using different forms of words incorrectly.

I have a tough time with spelling a long word sometimes, so I go with bad spelling. It's ugly and it's hard!
