I've been interested in Greek mythology since I read this book called "Pandora's Box" when I was a little girl. By the time I discovered Hercules (never really was interested in Xena), I already knew plenty about Greek mythology.

The Xena and Herc writer's didn't keep all of their portrayals of the Greek myths/gods/heroes completely accurate, but to be fair, the actual myths varied from region to region and time period to time period. There is no one canon bible of Greek mythology, historians pieced together the most common stories from different sources, and those became the ones that are preserved and known today.

I found the fractured retelling of Greek myths in the Xena and Hercules series to be a lot of fun!

I've never seen either show. Altho Xena supposedly had an actor in it that I like. If it's ever on TV again in Kansas, I think I'll take the time to watch.

It was ok I used to like to watch Hercules though I already knew a fair bit of mythology already, though some of the stories we're change like that episode about eros and psyche but as we know in greek mythology there is about 100 different versions to each story in mythology so in reality there isn't a actual official or as people would call it canon but that's what i like about greek mythology since there is not really any stories that are canon you can pick and choose which story you like and also let your imagination go wild.

Well, they did gave me some bits of info. And I've learned from Xena not only Greek mythology bits, but also Norse, Egyptian and Indian myths. Best show on the face of the planet! And I love how they stereotyped the gods, lol! :D

And for those of you who haven't noticed, Herc and Xena aren't suppose to be serious Greek mythology shows. They're just for fun, morals, fantasy and adventure! Notice how Xena contains other mythologies, beside Greek? With the blue-skinned god Krishna, the path of Love (Indian), Odin, Valkyries, Beowulf, golden apples (Norse), Cleopatra (Egyptian) and so many others. Even contains elements of religion.

It's an amazing 90's show!! So sad there are no more shows like it. Xena managed to be light, dark, funny, sad, silly, serious, even scary at times (see the episode with the cannibals). And I just love it how the lead protagonist is female! This show reveals that girls aren't always the damsels in distress!
