Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian & more lose millions of Instagram followers!

Instagram has cleaned house, and in the process, many of our favourite stars have said bye bye to millions of followers.

The photo sharing site overhauled their service this past Thursday to delete the profiles on inactive and spam users in a sweep people are now calling the great ‘Instagram Purge.’

Justin Bieber was the most followed celeb on the social networking site before the big purge, boasting an incredible 23.8 million followers. However, the ‘Never Say Never’ singer lost around 3.5 million of those overnight, which pushed the lesser hit Kim Kardashian (who said goodbye to 1.3 million followers) and Beyoncé (who lost just over 830,000) to be the two most followed people on the site. Kardashian now has 22 million, whilst Beyoncé has 21 million, that’s 1 million more than Bieber.

Also taking a big hit to their follower number was the rapper Akon, who lost almost 2.5 million followers. Popstar’s also saw a big dip, with Selena Gomez, Rihanna, Ariana Grande and Rapper Sean Diddy Combs all losing more than 1 million followers each.

Also losing a huge number of followers was Instagram itself. The social media site’s official page had more than 64 million followers pre-purge, but dropped to around 45 million after the big overhaul.

But it had to be anonymous user ChiragChirag78 and rapper Ma$e who suffered the biggest blows last week.

ChiragChirag78 started the purge with more than 3.6 million followers, but ended up with just 8. Yes, 8. Ouch. Ma$e lost over 1.5 million followers in the deletion, leaving him with just 272,000. Clearly not so thrilled with the huge number drop, he actually decided to delete his whole account from the site.
