“ I can’t believe আপনি didn’t take me!” I can’t believe Ms. M. She knows how much I প্রণয় Diana Ross, but she didn’t even think about taking me to the concert.

“I’m sorry, how can I make it up to you?” She asked sweetly.

“You can’t make it up to me. It was a once in a lifetime event, but no, আপনি took your niece. And it’s not even like she knows who Diana Ross is!”

“So there’s nothing I can do to make it up to you?”

I thought about that for a second. Is there anything that she wouldn’t normally let me do? Something she normally wouldn’t want me to see? অথবা maybe someone? I got it! Ooh this is going to be good.

“Arrange for me to visit Hayvenhurst” I ব্যক্ত with a large smile on my face.

She had no expression, did she hear me? She was looking at her watch. After a few moments of silence she replied, “Done”

My jaw dropped to the floor. Is that it? Do আপনি know how much begging, pleading, crying, and harassing I had to do to visit them the first time? And that was when I was a cute little 6th grader with a কুকুরছানা dog pout. Now I’m almost a ninth grader. Shouldn’t that make it harder?

“That’s it? Your just going to let me go?” I asked baffled.

She smiled and put her hand out in front of me. “You want to shake on it, make it official?”

I studied her face for a moment. She looks sincere, but she could just be playing game. Well, it didn’t matter because I shook her hand anyways.


One week laterJ

“I can’t believe your actually taking me with you…Finally! What, আপনি don’t trust me because of what happened when I visited in February? I swear it was Mason! He crawled over and knocked down Blanket’s cake”, I was babbling now. Something I only did when I was really nervous.

“I still can’t believe আপনি blamed it on a baby! But a deal is a deal right?” she asked not taking her eyes off of the road.

“Yes, finally I have won”, I ব্যক্ত putting on a purple headband. “And you’ve lost”

She laughed, “See, আপনি think I’ve lost, but I’ve really won, Kat invited আপনি over 2 weeks ago. We’re having a meeting for a church picnic and asked if আপনি could tag along to visit her grandchildren.”

“Man, even when I win I still loose” I ব্যক্ত looking up.

We’re here. I look up at the big brown gate in front of me ad take a deep breath. Ms. M is talking into the intercom while I take in my surroundings. Big gate street, cars, tree, Blanket…Blanket? I rolled down the window.

“Blanket, what are আপনি doing in that tree?”, I asked worried.

“You know, just thinking”, he replied

“Well get down before আপনি hurt yourself!”

He hopped down from the বৃক্ষ landing on his feet. “Oh, নমস্কার Kayla…bye” he ব্যক্ত then ran around to the other side of the house.

The gates opened and Ms. M drove her car onto the property. It looked exactly the same as last time. The ফোয়ারা in the middle, the বাস্কেটবল hoop, the welcome sign, and the 3 cars that seemed to always be parked in the driveway. I hopped out of the car and ran straight to the door. Ms. M stumbled after me in her five inch Gucci boots. I told her not to wear those.

I rang the doorbell twice and waited patiently on the প্রজাপতি welcome mat. A few moments later Prince answered the door in sweat pants and a dingy tee shirt. “Hi. Wait! I have to go change!” he exclaimed the ran up the staircase.

Then Paris appeared at the door “Hi Ms. M, Hi Kayla, come in.

We walked past the staircase and into a room where I saw Katherine sitting on the পালঙ্ক in front of the bar.

“Grandma, our guests have arrived.” Paris ব্যক্ত sweetly.

Kat turned around and smiled at us. “Hello Emmy, Kayla”

“Hi grandma” I sometimes called her grandma because she was always in grandma mode. She treated me like one of her grandchildren.

“Hi mother”, Ms. M often called her mother. I also noticed that some of the other adults at Kingdom Hall called her mother. I’m going to guess that they call her mother for reasons similar to the reason I call her grandma.

“Paris, আপনি and Kayla can go upstairs, I’m going to have চা with Emmy”

Paris motioned me to follow her out of the room. As soon as we got into the hallway she hugged me very tightly and swayed back and forth.

“Oh my gosh I’ve missed you! আপনি don’t know how hard it is living with all boys. I’m just so happy you’re here!” she ব্যক্ত then let me go. “Come on, there’s so much I want আপনি to see”, she ব্যক্ত and pulled me up the stairs. I don’t even think my feet touched the ground.

When we got to the main hallway Paris happily yelled “Red Robin” A chorus of echoing yums filled the halls as Jermajesty, Jaafar, Prince, Blanket, Donte, and Randy came out of their rooms.

“Kayla!” They ব্যক্ত in unison as they all engulfed me in a huge ভালুক hug.

“I can’t breathe” They all let go. I could breathe though, I mea if I couldn’t breathe I wouldn’t be able to talk now would I? I giggled at the thought.

“What’s so funny?” Jermajesty asked

“Nothing, just thinking about something funny”

“Okay then, now we can get on with our lives”, Jermajesty ব্যক্ত walking into he and Blanket’s room. Then everyone else just went back into their rooms as if I wasn’t there. I just stood in the hallway দ্বারা myself. Then I felt someone’s breath on my shoulder,

“Boo!”

“Monkey!” I yelped as I spastically swung my arms around my attacker’s neck. I looked up expecting to meet the eyes of an unfamiliar intruder, but relaxed when I saw they were Prince’s.

“Prince! Don’t scare me like that”

“Oh wow, আপনি were really scared huh?” He laughed and motioned for me to follow him into what I’m guessing is his and Jaafar’s room. I’ve been in everyone’s bedroom but Jaafar and Prince’s, so it was pretty exciting to finally be invited in.
