i really think all of them expected to win..they might've died doing it but they would've won..that pic was a reminder of their naivity, back when they thought they had a good chance of winning, their last good moment probably for awhile..Bobby and the boys don't want to be reminded right now at that brief, joyful, optimistic period of time..they're in a state of grieving and since they can't bury Jo or Ellen bodies, maybe burning that photo was symbolic of burying the bodies..they'll regret it later.

remember how they burnt John's body? and Bobby wanted to burn Dean's body when he died. They also burned Adam's body. ("he died like a hunter, he deserves to go out like one") it's just what they do.

honestly i don't think they really thought about their possible doom, trying 2 keep moral up, you never go into a football game saying you're going to lose that would be giveing up. so i believe that bobby was jokeing, but since cas hasn't really caught onto the whole jokeing thing, he reminded them of the possible deaths. but when they returned without jo and ellen i believe the burned the picture as a symbolic burning of the bones.

I think the burning of the picture was becouse they could'nt burn the bodies. I thought it was traditional or something becouse did'nt Bobby say "alright you know the drill'. I think when hunters go into a big battle they take a photo becouse they know its likely very little will come back again.

I agree with Ally and tammy- it was a symbolic hunter's funeral and a sign of respect. I'm sure they all knew that there could be casualties- every soldier knows that. It's not something you dwell on but the knowledge is always there. I don't think they went into it expecting everyone to survive- I mean they were going up against the devil. If anything, they probably thought that they'd all die, not just Jo and Ellen. It was a suicide run- they were all willing to die in the act of killing Lucifer.

I just wanted them to keep the pic coz it was literally Ellen and Jos "last night on earth" :( or maybe second to last night on earth coz i think they died at night lol *confuses self once again*
