She sat alone, huddled,
A waif, so thin and pale,
A homeless child, ragged,
Who seemed so very frail.
Her parents had abandoned her,
She foraged on her own,

She always was alone.

She was the saddest little girl,
In abject poverty.
People seemed to walk right by,
Without a passing glance,
