‘The Loft’ Trailer: Pleasure Penthouse Turns Deadly for These Unfaithful Bros
We first saw a trailer for ‘The Loft’ way back in 2012, and since then this thriller remake has languished in studio limbo, bouncing from Universal over to Open Road films. Originally slated for a 2014 release, the movie finally has a new release date, hitting theaters in January. Along with the new release date comes a new trailer, in which a group of married dudes buy a loft so they can have affairs on the down low. Everything is great for these jackasses until one of the women they brought to their pleasure pad is murdered. You know how it goes.
‘The Loft’ comes from director Erik Van Looy, who also helmed the original Belgian version. Matthias Schoenaerts reprises his role from the original in the remake alongside Karl Urban, James Marsden, Eric Stonestreet, and Wentworth Miller. The new trailer is more SFW than the first one, and has a very late 90s thriller vibe about it. It sort of reminds me of the tone of ‘Gossip,’ the 2000 film that also starred Marsden. While I’m not familiar with the plot from the original film, the trailer seems to hint that either one or more of these jerks’ wives may have something to do with the murdered mistress.
Over the last couple of years, ‘The Loft’ has been sitting on the shelf, just waiting to be released as we’ve pretty much forgotten all about it. The January release date isn’t a great sign, but given that the original director is involved and it boasts a very talented cast, this has the potential to be a wacky and fun thriller.
‘The Loft’ also stars Rhona Mitra and Isabel Lucas, and hits theaters on January 23, 2015.
