I love both the books but WH appeals more to me strangely even though 'Jane Eyre' is more 'normal' of the two

Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre will always be my favorite. I love Wuthering Heights and its eternal passion, yet Jane has that plus integrity and morality. I could never admire the destructive behavior of both Cathy and Heathcliff.

Nope but I admire Hareton and Cathy's love more. They for me, embody love better :)

Honestly, I see no depth or enough roundness in their characters and relationship. Obviously, there is enough depth to make their love apparent, yet nothing to make it feel everlasting. In my opinion :)

Hmmmm what to you mean by no depth? I confess that they have less PDA or outbursts than Cathy and Heathcliff - only because I don't know they are more 'civilised.' Both of them I think felt that - love was a personal thing and didn't have to be shared to be authenticated :) but gotta remember that umm the whole book is narrated. - by Nelly and Lockwood. Nelly had a personal dislike for Heathcliff/Cathy's relationship and may have tried to make it appear shocking to Lockwood - so made it sound more destructive and immoral (acc.to Victorian standards) than it actually was.

On the other hand, she was cautious what she said about Hareton and Cathy. I think she wanted Hareton to appear as the truly wronged so he seems devoted and quiet against Heathcliff etc. and with Cathy she presented a 'lady' who'd been through a lot cz rememeber as Nelly admits, Lockwood was a potential candidate of marriage for Cathy - to take her away.

In the end, when Lockwood describes the pair, he doesn't go into detail - he instead simply states their ill-veiled attmept at hiding their admiration and love for each other - making them reminiscent of C&H. Even if they did indulge in more PDA - Lockwood being a gentleman was not likely to comment on it I think.

Jane Eyre
Angria picked Jane Eyre:
It felt more like a summer fling type of romance. It was quietly and even subconsciously developed over the last half of the book until the end where it was realized and made public. Because of that, I felt that there was not enough time to develop into a depth of love equivalent of Cathy/Heathcliff and Jane/Rochester. However, it is left unto the reader to decide whether or not it will develop into one, which more than likely it will. But, within the time constraints of the book, that type of depth was not apparent to me. And I definitely think that Cathy/Heathcliff had depth, more so in an existential perspective rather than one of everyday reality.

As for PDA (and outbursts) in both WH romances, I do not include PDA in my opinion because that isn't a definitive with the kind of love and depth in these books (even in present society). JE does not have a lot of PDA either between Jane/Rochester except during the "engagement" and the final chapters. Even then, it is minimum. Jane does not tolerate it otherwise.

True about the narration (another thing I didn't care for in the book). However, the depth of Cathy/Heathcliff was made apparent through narration as well, regardless of whether it was admired by those narrating. With that common variant, I felt there was a difference between both relationships and their subsequent loves.
