New1Superion2 Everyone hates something, hopefully, for understandable reasons. Those who hate, for the sake of hating ("Haters"), usually have serious issues or problems. I say avoid haters & don't let them get under your skin. If someone criticizes you for liking a fictional character, then ask them what shows or movies THEY like & give them a taste of their own medicine. If your "friend" is anything like one of mine, then be prepared to physically defend yourself. An argument over anime & live-action characters we liked, got ridiculously out of hand... some blood was spilled. As for America, generally our audiences have a snobby attitude toward ALL animation, deeming it children's entertainment & nothing more. I'm still hopeful that that sentiment will change with time, although you won't catch me holding my breath. When introducing someone to anime, take into consideration the person's personality. You don't show a technophile who has no interest in romance, a show like Inuyasha. "Know yer audience." Finally, if anime is the ONLY thing that you and your friend are at odds over, then consider an "agree to disagree" posture. Good friends are hard to come by; there should be more, & better reasons to burn down bridges. JD

roseteaxx I think the haters are making general assumptions about it. They probably hate a particular and popular type of anime and assume that all anime must be like that. They might hate Naruto or something, and therefore hate it all. "If one is bad, they all must be bad" is the sort of mentality here. Or, they make assumptions about people who like anime and deem them "freaks" (as is common in our society, as anybody who is not similar is automatically a "freak") and they refuse to like anything that the "freaks" like. It's all very silly, really.
