What IS this?

I was just sitting here fanpoping and eating Miss Vickie's chips doing no harm when I looked in the bag and saw something. There, in the midst of all the salt and vinegary goodness was this. It feels really hard and smells so much like vinegar it makes your eyes water. So I'm just wondering what আপনি guys thing it is. I personally think it's a mutant chip that will give আপনি spidy senses অথবা something if আপনি eat it. My mum thinks it's crystalized vinegar, and my sister thinks it's a turd...
