I usually have soup in a cup (cup-a-soup) and adding a straw actually sounds like a fun idea.

Soup is usually hot so if you suck it with a straw, the soup flows so fast and in such vast amount onto your tongue and your tongue will get burnt. With a spoon and a bowl the chance of getting burnt is smaller... whereas juice is almost always cold
