It’s a disease that makes someone basically allergic to the sun. Even the smallest ray of sunlight could kill them. They’ll usually develop skin cancer because of any exposure to sunlight, their brain gets damaged and probably brain cancer to the point where they do get muscle spasms, and will eventually die. So they’re homeschooled, sleep during the day, and stay up all night because it’s the only time they can go outside. Unfortunately, due to this being a disease that only affects about 1 in 20,000 in Japan, 1 in 250,000 people in the United States, and 1 in 430,000 in Europe, there isn’t much research put into it or any funding for research. There isn’t much known about it due to it not being as common or researched as something like cancer or aids. People who have this disease don’t live longer than their early 20’s. If you want to know more information about this disease go to the link to the Wikipedia page. I also recommend watching the movie Midnight Sun that came out this year so that you can see how badly this rare disease affects both the person who has the disease and their loved ones having to watch their suffering. Plus, it's just a great movie in my opinion. This movie helped raise some awareness of it but it needs more attention because of how it affects not only the person with the diseased but also the people who love them.

By name I didn't but I saw an episode of Extraordinary People, or something like that, about the disease.
